Spying on competitors

Hi,
I was wondering if there is a good way to find out information about competitors like their google anaylatics, someone said this was possible? I've been on Alexa but due to the small nature of the businesses they don't have that much information on the businesses, they have the links which I find interesting but would love to see more numbers, visitors etc.

No its not really possible. At best you can get "guesstimates", but those vary widely, and in my opinion are very unreliable. (Dare i say snake-oil? yeah I probably would.)

Concentrate on your websites content, and the visitors will follow, as ultimately, the visitor numbers to other sites is not really important.

Well, you can try SEM rush to look for a traffic, keywords, phrases and positions.
You can use WHORUSH to looke how many websites is there on one GA account.
And Ahrefs.com to investigate backlinks.

You could place a small order using an alias take note of the order number then in a few weeks/months times place another and should the ref for example be UKBF01 and then UKBK10 you know they have had 10 orders since. This may not be accurate though in instance of cancelled carts/orders.

It is possible to research competitors re SERPS and can often be useful.

But there is a limit to what you can discover.

Links (in and out and to whom), ranking, number of pages linked and for what are all there to be found.

However, stats like the ones you suggest are not open to the public unless the owner decides to make them so...

Alexa is wayyyyyyyyyyyy of the mark and about as much use as a chocolate ashtray unless we ALL install their toolbar.

Yes, you can research from which websites your competitor gets its links. You need to use SEO research tools. Write down the name of your competitor in the search bar and it will give you what you're looking for. To use SEO moz costs you about 100 pounds a month however. Good luck! Tom
