Software Advice

Hello All,
I'm looking for some sort of business software that will do my accounting, sales, purchase orders and warehouse management. Ideally I want to be able to barcode or QR code all of my stuff. I've used a product in the past called Counteract, this does everything i need it to do and more but is it very expensive. As this is a new venture I don't want to be tied into a 5 year contract and be paying 15K plus monthly fees. I must add this need to be desktop software as the internet where i work is pretty non existent. I've looked a countless website with all their smoke and mirrors. But nothing beats recommendations from people that use a product daily.

Generally speaking, any software that incorporates 'accounting, sales, purchase orders and warehouse management' would be classified along the same lines as ERP and these software require significant amount of investment.

Have you considered developing a tailored software application that fits you exact needs? Nowadays, with the use of several rapid application tools and frameworks, software development companies (like us ) may be able to deliver a cost effective solutions for your new venture.

You could try SAP business one. We are hoping to go that way and we were surprised at the value offered. It isn't cheap but it can be kept sensible if your user numbers are not excessive

I Have considered having something developed, we do have another arm to the business that would require something as well and i need to speak to the other directors regarding this.
The Counteract software I mentioned is by a company called Border Merchant Systems.
It very customisable but a bit expensive for a company of our size at the moment.

Buying an ERP system is always going to be way cheaper than having one developed. To actually write a full featured ERP system would take many man years, not a cheap undertaking.

You are looking for serious stuff and what depends on so many different things

YOU need to draw up a list of what you need the software to do and why
Although you dont say what it is that you are doing my guess is that you are dreaming/planning bigger than reality and so not being sensible

K.I.S.S - will probably do you for a good few years

Match systems to the position of the business. Does your not yet started business actually need that much.

Separate cheap systems will probably do you for now

We use a combination of software.

For purchase & sales orders, stock control & and warehouse management we use Inflow. This is an American system which works well for us and although out of the "box" it is very American it is relatively easy to customise to UK spellings and terms.

What's more there is a free version which is fully functional up to a limited number of products. The support is pretty good and the full version is not too expensive with no on going tie in.

We use a separate accounts package for our accounting (Encore light from Anagram systems). There support is second to none, no scripts to go through, just real people. There software can do purchase ordering and all the other things you require but we prefer to keep the 2 functions separate as sales orders tend to get "modified" by our customers and for us a bit of human checking avoids lots of issues further down the line.

you can source it from the market. Look for professional omnichannel merchant solutions. Usually, they provide all the required features. There is much competition on market and you can get such solution from GBP50/month range including drop shipping capability offered in Saas. Search well and you will find it. Why you need it in desktop version- now all is cloud base.
