SMS MARKETING

I agree in most cases sms marketing is not very well done but I'd also counter that doesn't make SMS marketing bad. People just need to give more thought about how they use it. Marketing should be about getting to people who either want to hear your message or will genuinely benefit from whatever it is you're offering them. It shouldn't be people getting spammed left right and center which is common practice (in my experience) for sms.

It can be used in a way that benefits all. For example you want to know more about a company at at that exact moment in time sending a text so you then get a reply with a link may be the best way as it it means you wont forget and the company wont lose out.

An optin sms campaign has probably the highest rate of return in marketing. 98% of text messages are opened within the first 5 minutes of being sent. Lets face it. When is the last time you ignored a text?
I offer a VIP Club.

Here's how it works for those that are interested.

  • You entice customers to optin by offering a small discount, i e: For a 10% discount text the word DEAL to 88888.
  • Customer immediately receives a text with a digital coupon, and a sales page where we add links to any online page, ie Facebook, you-tube, your website, etc, plus details of your campaign and how to opt out.
  • We then send 4 messages per month with your special offer, ie: BOGOF, Free dessert when you spend £20 or over. We also get clients to team up with a none competing business so they can split the cost.
I mentioned the highest rate on return earlier, this is why.....

You have 100 people who have subscribed.
Each person is sent a text once per week
Only 12% of texts sent are redeemed (average redemption rate is between 15-34%)
They spend approximately £30

100 Customers X 4 Texts per month X 12% Redemption X £30 Spend = £1440

We have clients with 500+ subscribers who have been with us from the start. They make approximately 10k per month.

Subscribe a minimum of 3 people per day and you will easily hit these figures.

Subway and Dominoes understand the value of this strategy and it's a lot cheaper than you think.

I have more dynamic marketing strategies. For more info feel free to pm me.

Thanks

I trialled Textmarketer a couple of years ago but then sold out the business I was using it for.

In principle, you can either drop the offer via the SMS or drop a link to a Facebook, website or such page where they can see the bigger picture.

I am currently looking at it for dry cleaning customers, both for notification that their goods are ready for collection and also for advertising.

Text marketing would be a perfect fit for the dry cleaning business. You simply ask the customer to text your business name to a short code (77777), it's free to text, safe and their info will not be sold to a third party.
Once they have texted in, their number will be saved to your database. You will then be able to text them as and when or we can do it as part of our done for you service. It works on the same principle as email marketing.

Have you ever thought about mobile loyalty cards?
Every time a customer takes in their dry cleaning, you stamp their card.
After the 10th stamp, you reward them.
Our cards come with blue tooth and geo fencing. We set up a location either outside your store or on your local high street. When a customer enters within 80-100 metres they are sent a push notification.
This could work extremely well for your service industry.
For more info feel free to PM me.

Nope - you have this back to front on participation

See answer above

Yes - discounted idea

Why ? we trade on quality. Does BMW give you a free car if you buy 10 ?

Nope - you can't make an instant or distressed purchase of dry cleaning as you haven't got the items which need cleaning with you !

For anyone thinking about using SMS, I'd say do the exact opposite of everything @Simonster suggests and you won't go too far wrong.;)

Asking for a mobile number to contact clients on when their dry cleaning is ready, and then spamming the number just because you don't know how to market your business properly, isn't going to do you any favours.

I'm looking at starting to use SMS marketing in the near future. We only have a small database (52!) that have opted in and offered up their mobile numbers, but it's growing week on week. We were hoping to use a service that integrates well with MailChimp- anyone got any recommendations? I've looked at most of the services on the MailChimp site and a lot of them seem to be in the US.

Also, any advice? I was thinking about using a Shortcode with keywords ie. "Text KEYWORD to 11111 for FREE ENTRY before midnight!" or "Thirsty? Text KEYWORD to 11111 and get your first drink HALF PRICE!"
