Shopping channels are an absolute mystery to me. I can't understand why anybody would watch product promotions and then phone up, credit card in hand. And Yet....QVC is going from strength to strength and makes massive profits.

The idea of a Shopping Channel for younger people sounds like a smart idea on the surface - you could sell all kinds of gadgets related to mobile phones, media players, sportsware. Unless your channel is very well established I would be cautious to compete with QVC though. They only have to start up a "QVC Junior" and they would wipe you off the planet.

Good luck with it anyway!

I honestly think the content has to appeal to your target market. I don't think you'll achieve this just by selling mobile phones and hoodies. Look at it from the perspective of what mass media channels youngsters tend to interact with the most, for example:

- social media
- user generated video content
- music channels

Can you create a televised platform that involves some or all of these, and successfully 'flog' your gear through them?

I'm not going to write a full treatment for you for free, but those pointers should be enough to help you start thinking in a more targeted way about the task at hand.

Gone are the days of QVC.
I thought they were still on the up.

Asked my daughter about using a shopping channel and she just laughed. They don't buy stuff from shopping channels.

Unless they are some redneck looking for wolf howling at the moon stuff with a dreamcatcher or maybe an eagle

Hi,

I think it depends also from the country. For example here in Lithuania the young generation (it depends also the age), let's say youth up to 19-20 years they don't use Tv channels or online to buy things, as they like to go outside with friends for shopping. And youth from 20 up to 29 (depends if age 29 is included in youth) they do use online shops, especially when they get the job, and they don't have lot of time. But also I could say, that there's some kind of subsectors: some youth don't like to use computers at all, and they prefer do shopping outside nevermind if they are 17 or 27 :) This is my thoughts :)
