Hi, everyone. I'm need of some advice. Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long post.
I was recently injured at my workplace.
I was in hospital overnight awaiting surgery and hadn't slept. My line manager was aware of that, but was requesting phone calls to conduct an investigation. I wasn't up to it and refused.
I spent one night in the hospital. Instantly my boss was requesting I attend work for a meeting. There was numerous requests and I had to keep turning down the requests highlighting I was unfit to drive. The deadline to conduct the investigation was highlighted. I needed to have a sit down meeting with my line manager and the HR manager.
I then received a request from my line manager requesting if she and the HR manager could call me later in the day. I did say it was outside working hours and I genuinely already had made plans. I asked not to be called. My boss accepted that. We then agreed I would attend work early the next week. We made a firm appointment.
At the exact time I said not to call, my line manager and HR manager called me from a different unknown mobile number. I was in the middle of something important, but I answered the call due to potential issues at home.
They wanted to check if I was ok. Could the company do anything for me. Then they wanted to confirm I was still on holiday the following week. I had never requested the following week off, but my line manager was strongly pressing I had. I said that I hadn't put in for holidays and I'm off injured.
I attended the meeting the following week my line manager and the HR manager. My line manager did call it a "5 Whys investigation" and a "chat" in our WhatsApp.
The HR manager says it was my choice to attend work and the company accommodated my request. Very clearly in my messages, from my line manager, my line manager and HR manager wanted/had to sit down with me.
It clearly wasn't a 5 Whys investigation. I wasn't really allowed to say much without my opinions being questioned or undermined. My line manager argued strongly over things I said even though they were 100% true. She was aware of that too.
My boss made an effort to convince me I was upset on the night of the accident. I said I was totally fine. She then added someone else reported that I was upset.
Days after the meeting the minutes arrived in my inbox under highly dubious circumstances. The HR manager had replied to an unconnected email subject that my line manager had created, with myself, the HR manager and the Health and copied in. I think the HR manager had accidentally responded to my line manager in the wrong email.
Minutes after the email was received my HR manager tried to recall the email. I had already opened it.
The minutes are shocking. Large parts of my input are missing. I'm attributed as saying things I never said. Questions and answers from my managers have been completely changed. They make me look bad that I've knowingly not adhered to policies. It was my actions that caused the injury.
I told my HR manager I had read the minutes before she tried to recall them and they were wrong. She says they aren't verbatim and I could add my input for review. She denied the minutes were inaccurate or missed out parts.
She said she sent the minutes as another employee requested them on my behalf. I had not asked anyone to request the minutes for me. The excuse then changed to she sent the email too early by accident.
I went over the minutes adding in parts and correcting many of the mistakes. I forwarded them.
I haven't had any response since. The email discussion has gone from active, to zero response for days.
Throughout this I've been left feeling very uncomfortable with the conduct of my line manager and the HR manager. I sent a message to my line manager saying this prior to the meeting.
What should I do to keep myself right?
Do you think my HR manager and line manager and breaking all sorts of acceptable standards and HR protocols?
Thanks in advance.
