Hey folks, hope you are well.

I am wanting to grow my affiliate network in search engine rankings such as Google. However i have read alot of books and this has confused me further. Do you kindly know what the most important part of SEO is, so i can work on this to try improve my website rankings please?

I am not sure whether i need to be working on getting more websites to link to mine. Create a blog so Google knows i am an active site. I know all these things are useful, but does anyone know the most important factor that i should start with?

Any advice you can give me i would be massively grateful for. Thank you for your time.

An affiliate network for what?

Google is looking for expertise, authority and trust. You need to provide interesting and informative content that adds value. What do you offer that is deserving of ranking on page one?

Hey @Jimmy Tootime,

When starting off, SEO for new websites is always a little difficult- no matter the niche. And as you may know, there are two options going forward:

- An SEO Agency/Freelancer
- DIY SEO

The pros/cons being:

- An SEO Agency/Freelancer is quicker, takes the headache out of things, and actively work on your behalf, but come at a cost.
- DIY SEO is free but as you're still learning, it will be slower. Again, it's free but can also be as expensive, if not more, since you could say lost time is also lost money :)

If you decide to go ahead with the DIY SEO option, I couldn't recommend Tim Cameron-Kitchen's books more. The books are incredibly affordable and the wealth of information provided in those books is second-to-none.

When starting off, your first priority will be building your Domain Authority. Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages (SERPs) - with spam websites at the low end and websites like Wikipedia at the upper end.

To begin with, you'll need to find a balance of on-site and off-site SEO - at this stage, strong, positive backlinks and informative, related content, are vital for establishing authoritativeness. To help with research, I'd recommend signing up with an SEO tool like Ahrefs, Moz, or Semrush (for Backlink and Keyword Research).

Throughout the entire process, you'll also be looking to maintain "White Hat SEO" practices (it's especially important that you make yourself aware of "Black Hat" practices so as to not get banned by Google).

Once you've started building Domain Authority, you can start shifting your focus on User Metrics like Bounce Rates, Search Console Click-thru-rates, and so on.

Opting for the DIY option, it may feel like quite the long journey from time-to-time. And in all honesty, you'll probably find yourself feeling like you're not making progress as fast you'd like. It'll take a lot of patience, some head scratches, and even more "back-to-the-drawing-boards", but once you've got it, you've got it :)

Best of luck on your SEO journey. Remember, it's a lifetime skill and Rome wasn't built in a day!
