Hi

It looks like we are taking on someone inhouse to look after our SEO & other bits relating to our websites.

Ive been asked by similar businesses if we could help with their SEO to get similar results & think we will have some time time every week to do this.

What do firms usully charge to do this per hour?

thanks

I got a quote from a SEO company today and they were charging 60 pounds an hour and that was for social media optimisation

£50-£60 per hour is the standard agency rate and like anything you only get what you pay for so beware of wise men offering gifts for much less price on here.
I would get a personal recommendation/referral if I were you before outsourcing to anyone and check previous work.

It will depend exactly what they are doing. There are potentially serveral skill sets involved in "SEO" from simple link building to knowing HTML/ CMS and/ or copywriting etc. Outside of the technical there are also relationships, do your SEO people either run high PR sites to create quality inbound links from relevant sites or at least have good industry relationships to get them on others sites?

Depending on how wide the skill set is will dictate the money. Can be anything from £10 an hour for little more than call centre people making posts on forums to £100+ for developers or people with very significant connections etc

I love these ' I can do it please PM me' posts.

Has anyone ever been gullible enough to actually take them up on their offer?

It is curious why anyone would be looking to pay such a high hourly rate for SEO work, even from the most skilled practitioner, its not like getting your car fixed :p

SEO is an ongoing project that requires regular blocks of activity throughout your ownership of a website.

If you pay for a weekend or a month's worth of SEO work and walk away thinking job done, over time any initial gains you got from your £60 an hour consultant will soon be lost.

On the other hand if your website business is turning over 38 million a year and an SEO more than doubles your traffic you may be more than happy to pay somewhat more.;)

It comes down to the potential value of the business that can be generated.

AS for ongoing of course it is if you want to grow.

If you are willing to spend some time yourself, you can get an SEO software and do it.
I have tried this before with great success. I managed to optimized my website for 5 search keywords on Google. I am at the top of the search results for two or three of the keywords at Google. And I am within the top 10 results for all other keywords I optimized for.
