Hi all
Just a quick one, can anyone confirm how Google has changed how websites rank? I know they've changed their algorithm. Is it different from February?
The basics haven’t changed in years. What has changed is how the ranking signals are weighted. Don’t try to game the system and you won’t have any issues.

No... No one can. Not even the experts working at Google seem to know what they are going on about half the time.

The simple fact is, it is secret. Just optimize your site for easy readability and usability - With as much good/useful content as possible.

You cant game Google anymore. Forget it.

Google are rolling out a major update - some say as big as the 'Penguin' update 10 years ago. It's described as an attempt to reward those sites that Google deems 'helpful' to the searcher, that is, sites with useful content.

I've long been cynical about the algorithm's ability to 'judge' (which is difficult and subjective) as opposed to 'measure' (which is easy and objective). Expect howls of anguish and cries of 'unfair' from some quarters.

What will be interesting is the effect, if any, on the rankings of individual pages. Google used to rank pages based on their content, links and so on. Now, part of that ranking is derived from the whole site. Will a 'non-helpful' page (eg. an ecommerce product page) rank better because the rest of the site is deemed helpful (information pages) ? Who knows.

What seems clear is that, if your site is hit, there's no quick fix.

This new one is going to be like Florida from the early 2000's

Google is getting better and better at ranking sites that deserve to rank, rather than ones who try to play them

Example of this is a guy who ranks really well for the town and service he is in

He asked if he can rank high for that, why can't he just do exactly the same and rank for a town 20 miles away

My answer was he deserves to rank high for the town he is in and it makes sense for him to, where as it doesn't make sense for him to rank high for the town 20 miles from him

Google are smart enough to know where he deserves to rank and tricking them is getting trickier

Google updates have now put emphasis on quality content, not just keywords and backlinks.
Making it easy for the customer to find a solution to their question(s) is key, as well as the page being well-written and relevant to the topic.
Yandex (the Russian search engine with a 50%+ market share of searches undertaken in Russia) has recently suffered a leak of the code used in their search algorithm.

Now Yandex isn't Google, but their search algorithms inevitably overlap.

The SEO community has identified 17,854 ranking factors in the Yandex algorithm.

    Just saying.

    Hello mate,
We are not exactly struggling with SEO knowing quite a bit ourselves - but would love to get your feedback on a few sites, and can also share some knowledge back also.

We might also be able to get you some work perhaps as we have a bunch of clients who want an SEO but we primarily focus on tools and the structure SEO more than the nitty gritty stuff which I'm sure you do.

Finally we also have an SEO expert in our partnership from Germany who I can put you in contact with (hes really unwell at the moment but once hes better) and he loves to share his wealth of knowledge too which might be useful to you.

Add us on skype or if you have discord drop me a line on there deano1987#6962

You pick things up as you go. There are many courses on SEO out there. However As Fisicx Mentioned I am not 100 percent sure as to whether there is an official SEO course to follow
Experience is essential, as though things are constantly changing, knowing what to do and when based upon your own hard-learned lessons. Being able to provide case studies is also important. You might also be advised to pitch a talk or two at events like BrightonSEO. Most of the main software tools like Semrush, Ahrefs and Moz offer training and certifications that you can do. Hubspot also SEO have certificates that you might want to undertake.

I am still struggling with SEO. google changes its algorithm frequently.
The core requirements have been the same for years. If you are struggling with SEO read Google’s guidelines again.

Thanks for the advice. I am trying to increase the backlinks at the moment. therefore I hope to increase DA. my DA is only 10. it is not good. should be 30 at least I hope.
You are doing it wrong. Google doesn’t care about DA. Google is more interested in your site content. If you are chasing backlinks you are unlikely to achieve anything useful.

Really? thank you for reminding me.
As was pointed out in your other thread, you need to fix the multiple issues with your website and sort out your marketing plan.
