Hey folks,

I'm using this plugin for a blog of mine, but the SERPS listings for the pages have the description starting with the date.

i.e. "4 Jul 2009 ... These are the words Steve put into the description field."

Is this a normal thing with this plugin? Or, could it be part of the theme I'm using?

Anyone know how to fix it so the date doesn't go into the meta description?

Cheers,

Steve

It's possible I'm just being an utter doofus.

The posts that are showing in google were all done in the last couple of days, so it may be that google is inserting that into the listing.

(looking at the source code, the date isn't in the meta description)

I'll go back to these posts in a few days and see if the date has gone from google's snippet.

Cheers,

Steve

The All in One SEO pack auto-generates the meta-description text from the last custom field (meta date block) added for the page. So if there are 10 custom fields, and the first 5 are filled in, then the information from field 5 is used for meta-description.

It seems that Google is just displaying the last cache of your blog with that description.

To create your own meta description, make sure you uncheck the box "autogenerate description."

Another thing you could try is setting the Reading Settings, so the Front Page displays a static page.

Good liuck! :)

Google often puts the date at the front of blog posts. It won't be anything to do with your meta description. It's just something it does, as it knows date is important to people when deciding to click or not.

I think that's what I was seeing.

The older posts (the ones prior to the 4th July) are no longer showing the date, but the posts since then are.

So, it's just a case of waiting it out and the listings will turn "normal".

Thanks for confirming my theory,

Steve

Steve I just noticed it in a Google search which brought up this result from dmoz, though it is dated 2007! As far as I am aware dmoz doesn't use wordpress or the plugin. It came up on page 2 after searching for 'fitness'

Open Directory - Health: Fitness
27 Dec 2007 ... the entire directory, only in Health/Fitness. Top: Health: Fitness (324) ... Usenet misc.fitness.misc - news: - Google Groups ...
www.dmoz.org/Health/Fitness/ - Cached - Similar
