Selling imported Lights from China - the Law.

I recently bought some novelty lights from China - on a string like Christmas lights but in a fancy design.

Everyone I have shown them to, loves them - but they do not want the bother of buying from overseas.

I am ordering some for friends (they then give me the dosh).

It has made me think, if there is perhaps a small market to be had importing and selling these myself.

There are stacks of designs, they are inexpensive and so versatile.

I could do carboot type markets, internet sales, and see how it goes.

Parties, Christmas, BQ, these lights have so many uses...

Whats the law on the safety aspect of selling these lights.
They come with their own 2 pin adapter, and to be honest most lights we buy today come from China anyway.

Thanks for any help.

What is the 2 pin adaptor for?

They will need CE and RoHS approval, at least, plus, dependant on the design, meet certain green standards (i.e. bulb type).

BTW, make sure you have good PL insurance.

This might be a start...

Personally, it's one I'd avoid... Two pin adaptors are allowed but need to be of a particular type that basically envelopes the two pin plug and is held closed by a screw...

We imported some film lamps for our own use and basically had to rewire them before we could get them through a PAT test...

I'm thinking this is a potentially complex area that we can't really deal with here. these folks might be of help...
