Hi,

Has anyone here ever sold a profitable ecommerce business on Flippa? It seems the sites for sale mostly generate revenue from ads or affiliate commissions. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has sold an ecommerce business with stock. I am already using businessesforsale but Flippa does seem to have a huge user base.

Thanks!

The average price of a website sold at Flippa in 2010-2011 was $1,100.

    Now it's closer to $500.

The occasional larger site does sell there, but the bulk of that marketplace contains cheap, lower end junk and it's in that lower end that the large userbase is mainly interested.

If it's a business expecting to sell for $100K+, I suggest you speak to a good broker or two. There are a few on these forums (no, I'm not one).

I can give you my contact who sells sites on flippa, but he only sells sites that make at least £1k per month (just to cut out the not so profitable sites)

He does take a % of the selling price however, but his contacts are vast.

The way the big sites sell on flippa has always been the same. They are sold or generated mass interest even before it gets listed. And thats what my contact did for 2 of my websites a couple of years ago

The amount of crap on Flippa often clouds the good deals / good websites that used to feature there. I've been burnt a couple of times with sites I've bought and the sellers had good feedback...

It seems every man and his dog can build a site in 7 days that allegedly makes thousands per month and then sells it on Flippa.

You can't go by the feedback on Flippa, unfortunately. A lot of dodgy sellers are allowed a pretty free rein in Flippa, IMO. Flippa bans the occasional blatant scammer, but the large majority of them are operating with impunity.

You need to use something like my seller research tool which gives you a snapshot of any specific seller's activity, all the other dodgy accounts he's connected with etc. See an example of how it works here.

The feedback you'll see in Flippa is very limited and Flippa has an incentive to make their most prolific customers/biggest spenders look good.
