Selling a website

Hello
I'm new to the forum, and came accross it because I'm looking to sell my website.
Does anybody have any advice as to where the best place to advertise my website/business for sale would be?
I am a new user so not permitted to post a thread to the url!
It started off as a pregnancy forum and retail shop. This was a big project of mine when I was on maternity leave, but having gone back to work full time I no longer have the resource to run the website.
I look forward to hearing your suggestions.
Thanks!
Melanie

What is the niche? As who_me says you can write the URL in long hand.. Obviously trading figures would be needed. Plus due dilligence.

The theme of the website is "enjoy your pregnancy" and the idea behind it was to create a portal for pregnant women to purchase pregnancy related items, to access pregnancy related information and to chat on the pregnancy related forum. It differs to usual pregnancy websites which also focus on baby - this one is all about the mums!

I carried out some SEO and PPC work in the beginning (2 years ago) for about 8 months - it got some good page 1 rankings on Google in its prime, but I had to reduce my time and expenditure on the site about 18 months ago. I have not advertised the site for many months, but I still receive enquiries and orders, although I can not support these at the moment.
The forum was particularly popular and had regular members and keen moderators.

Any advice as to the best way for me to advertise this would be appreciated.

Do you own the compyright? What about romancart? would they object to someone else owning the website?

How about contacting some of the existing pregnancy websites?

At the end of the day, buying a website for something other than the URL is the same as any other business, turnover/profit/stock value/goodwill.

Maybe put an advert on some of the mothers to be/pregnancy websites

The other option is to get back behind the wheel yourself, much me rewarding working for yourself than 'the man'.. :)

Hope this helps

Yes all of the copyright is held by the company which I set up to operate the website. There is no problem with transferring ownership of the company and/or the rights held by it. The Romancart service is subject to a simple renewal, and is not affected by ownership. (I am a lawyer, so it was fairly well set up on that side of things).
I hadn't thought about contacting other pregnancy websites - I will look into that definitely.
Thank you for your ideas.:)

Had a client recently interested in this type of website, please give me a PM when you decide how much you want for it and we can consider it
Please also give us the standard business turnover / profit details if available and list anything like stock and supplier details that could come with the site

Thank you Delicious Webdesign - I will do that. :)

I would be worried about buying this if the copyright is help with the website designer. Are you under contract to have them maintain the website or are you able to maintain it yourself?

Hello ZoeZoe. The copyright is not with the web designer. There is no issue with the copyright or other IPR, all of which is fully vested appropriately. The website is hosted, and there is no attached maintenance contract.

Hi,

I can also reccomend businesses4sale.com as a good place to get some interest. Although possibly a lot of unrealistic enquiries along the way.

I'm always on the look out for something new to combine with our current sites (an operation merged is an overhead halfed...)

I have one quite pertinant question regarding the value of the site. If you started it 2 years ago, and given that for most new mums the ability to work from home would be a godsend. How come you have to pack it in? You mentioned being short of resources - I assume this resource isn't time as you have time to return to full time work. What resources does the business require that it does not return by now?

I like the site and would love to hear an overview of the figures from the last 12 months.

Cheers

Hello movietub - thank you for your interest. :) The resource I lack is time unfortunately, I work full-time in a demanding job (I am a lawyer) and I'm a mum to a toddler. I am spreading myself too thinly by trying to run a website also - I don't even have the time to chat on the forum anymore.

I am putting some statistics together for you, and for the other forum members who have expressed an interst.

Thank you again.
