Hi,

I just had Scoot ring us up, about their directories for the Sun, Mirror, Touch Local, Ask etc.

£350 + Vat for a full featured listing, guaranteed top 4 position for 10 different search terms.

Sounds alright however has anybody got a listing with them? IS it worth the money has anybody had good sucess marketing with them?

I know every business is different etc just wandered if anybody could recommend it?

Cheers

Jamie

We used them for a year. Can't say it was money well spent in the way of lead generation, however, we did see an increase in our search engine ranking. Google analytics had the links recorded as coming directly from thesun.co.uk and this boosted our domain authority.

One thing to bear in mind is - we spent time setting up our profile exactly as we wanted it, only for someone at scoot to make a whole lot of changes on our behalf. These changes included spelling errors and bad photos which ruin the image we were trying to portray.

A representative from Scoot just called me and I have to say they are quite good at convincing you to sign up by offering you various deals, so I did sign up. My business is not a local, I run an eCommerce website, not sure what the response would be like for business like mine.

Don't do it! A complete waste of money. The days of paid for directories are just about over, Scoot fell of the cliff a long time ago - can't remember the last time I saw any of their listings in the SERPs. I wouldn't hold out much hope for ranking improvment either. Google has gotten wise over the years and will pretty much ignore the inbounds.

Thanks fisicx for the reply.
They offered me a good deal almost half price of their standard rates and I've already signed up I'm afraid :). My business is new so I don't mind pay little bit money here and there just to get my brand name out there. If doesn't work our for me that I certainly won't be continuing it from next year.

Your brand name won't get out there using Scoot. People use search erngines to find providers, they rarely use directories. If someone is search for your business name then you want your website to rank not your Scoot listing.

You are absolutely right, I want my business name to rank not Scoot listing when some one search for my product. I am looking into getting some SEO done too which I believe will be much more beneficial for my website in the long run.
Hi, I would advise against directories. I run my own media platform digital magazine security africa magazine. I have spent time and effort ensuring I top google through variations of key words. hat type of business do you run?

Scoot salesman rang me a while ago. Tried to convince me that people would search for my products using them.

So I asked him how many people were searching for the brand name of the items I sell, or were searching for the name of the TV series that the items I sell come from, and the answer was "err, none". OK, so I should list with you because...?

To be frank - Yell, Scoot etc. are all a waste of time. Its solely why you get telephone calls out of the blue trying to sell you the service... if it was any good, you would sign up, not need to be persuaded.

How many people get phone calls from Google ...

Is anyone track traffic of Scoot?
Please check scoot's search traffic- how much people visit scoot website daily, weekly or monthly.
Check it on semrush position tracking tool.

Scoot's traffic falls tremendously after May 2012.
So today I can't spend money on Scoot, it is possible to get few visitors to your site or get few phone calls from scoot but it is not affordable...

Well, the site says it wasn't much better before May 2012... the sudden peak around that time is a major concern!

I use them at the moment. I have to agree that they arent really worth that much. They are high authority sites but I get 0 visitors from them and can't see any seo benefit since I started.

I can tell they are desperate to get people signed up as the salesperson who contacted me offered her "friends and family discount" hahaha.

I know this is an old thread but Google's new AI brought up a list of 'top business directories' and Scoot was in the snippet. Have things changed?
No. Google is just more wrong than it was before.
