Mobile phone manufacturers fit GPS chips into most of the cell phones now, when TomTom stand alone device is 5x bigger & thicker. What`s the difference between iphone and tomtom sat nav in terms of hardware?

Its good as a backup but use a dedicated sat nav for sat nav work.

The Iphone is still just a phone with a few bits added on.

However in central london when your tomtom can't find a signal the phones ability to use the mobile network may help

That being said I'm a Garmin man so tomtom are rubbish:D

Hi

I had a tomtom sat nav, i got rid of it once i bought it for iPhone! its allot better in my opinion, it has google search for finding places :) ie type a shop name or restaurant etc and it uses google to find the GPS location! its a well worth purchase the app!

Google Maps navigation is out for iPhone later this year apparently.. but it uses your internet connection to download maps on the go where tomtom the maps are installed on the phone. But google will be free and uses street view.

Co-pilot for iPhone is about £20 and works well. Once you've bought it it installs on iPad too- big screen

Battery is drained in about 3 hours on the iPhone tho so it needs a car connector
