Hi there,
Not sure I’m in the right place but I have a query related to keeping a work mobile number after leaving the company.
I have worked in my company for 5+ years but recently tendered my resignation. I’m leaving on really good terms and will continue to be an advocate for the business.
When I started working for the company I had a PAYG mobile phone but over the years that fell by the wayside as more and more people contacted me on my work phone. Eventually I just had one number and as time has gone by that number has been linked to all manor of personal accounts such as social media and internet banking.
When previous colleagues have left the business, they have been allowed to keep their mobile phone numbers. If they have kept their handsets then the company has wiped them of any company accounts etc. If they haven’t kept the handsets then they just get a code that enables them to attach the number to a new handset.
I now have a new HR person and they have decided, starting with me, that this practice will no longer continue. Has there been some change in guidance around this sort of thing, such as GDPR legislation, that justifies this? Or is it a case of somebody asserting their authority?
Thanks
