Idiots .......... but at least ill be able to watch a few good films in the new Mercedes with its 626 mile range, or even better have a nape in the caravan we towing (i better check the new code on that one just in case)

You can't travel in a caravan being towed - the driver of the towing vehicle would be committing a loading offence. As I would suspect the AI is incapable of watching passengers that part would still be the registerred drivers responsibility.

Think it is this offence

    Cynical fellow - take it with a pinch of salt and see if it gets verified but no need to disregard it. Nothing will ever improve if you continue with that state of mind.

    Being honest about consumption figures has absolutely nothing to do with my state of mind. I welcome improved electric performance, the current poor distances electric vehicles can travel are the main barrier to their acceptance.

    Car companies, like any other, tend to pitch their figures to suit their own ends. A recent test showed a claimed range on one vehicle of 297 miles was nearer 210 in reality. It is no different to fossil fuel data and claims, the companies know people are looking for good figures, so ensure they are achieved, either by style of driving or other means.

    Just read that and the first thing that jumps out in terms of the govt making things more complicated than they need be is the EVERY charge point has to be capable of at least contactless payment - it appears to rule out any kind of scheme where you just log in and it bills you

    What they are saying is you don't HAVE to have a contract to use a terminal, a contactless option must be available too.

    While it would be good to have a single app that works on anyone's chargers, I'm not sure we'll ever reach that.

    As an aside. Edinburgh Council are dropping their free charging points from May 1st, so no more free driving for me. I'd got in the habit of plugging in and going for a run for an hour, picking up 40-50kwh of electricity while I was there.

    The driver of the vehicle that dropped 30% of its range, did he mash the accelerator, drive on the brakes, drive through urban areas only - perhaps he wanted a range to suite HIS purposes and you failed to investigate his technique and motive, take everything with a pinch of salt until it is verified.


    In an EV, you really notice the impact of turning on heaters/AC, etc. For a petrol car, the heat is pretty much free but running the AC will cost you as it's a load on the engine. In an EV, heating and cooling both cost you fuel.

    I suspect there is a lot of the same thing done with ICE's as well, tests carried out on rolling roads with brakes disconnected (no wind resistance and reduced mechanical drag) or with wing mirrors removed and all seems taped over (better aero)


    Whenever economy is a big purchasing decider manufacturers will do anything they can within the rules to make that look better (irrelevant of the fuel source of the vehicle).
