I know this isn't business but a good friend of mine could do with some general advice, this is her situation...
Her husband left her a few months ago and they have not seen each other at all, lawyers are involved and a divorce is on the cards... she has two children to this man both early Primary School ages. The matrimonial home is owned by the now ex in-laws, they have given notice for her to quit on 01st March and despite the fact this will put her and their grandkids on the street have offered to rent the property to her for £900 a month which is well over the local going rate. It's obviously a ploy so she leaves and they claim the house was purchased as a business, not a home for them (they are quite wealthy) and of course none of this in writing because it was a gift when the going was good... it can't be proven in other words and the deeds are in the ex in-laws name. A hellish situation you'll agree.
What she needs is time to get organised and get a home to rent for her kids, what she needs to know are her rights of tennancy (In England) to stall for a wee while as effectively what is now the landlord is being unreasonable... well you know what I mean under the circumstances. Any way to stall in other words even just for a few months?
Any input appreciated.
