repeating blocks of content

Now I know, duplicate content is a no-no.

However, is it really a massive deal if I duplicate blocks of say 50 words on different sections of my website.

We want to have CTAs on each of our solutions pages directing to relevant/value content in our blog/resources. However, it would take too long for us to write unique content to highlight the same thing in multiple place.

How damaging it would it be for us to have blocks of duplicate content like this within bigger pages of unique content?

It's more about the ratio of duplicate content on each page. If the page has 2000 words of unique content and 50 words duplicate it might not be a huge issue.

If the page is only 300 words long and 50 of those words are duplicated all over your site, it might be a bit more of a problem.

With any repeated block of text the best thing to do, in my opinion, is to create an image or a banner that includes the text.

That way the text isn't 'readable' by search engine crawlers, but is still visible to the user.

Therefore no duplicate content issues, while still being able to give the user the information they need on every page of your site.

In addition to the basic 'dilution' approach of simply writing more original content, there are several ways of lessening the impact, including any/all the below:

1) plop the repeating content in a file, block it from crawl/indexing, iframe drop it into the pages you want it appearing in (this one came from Matt C himself)
2) use semantic markup to clearly identify your unique content as well as pushing the repeating text into asides, footers, etc (this is a tidy fit)
3) provide only a small chunk of the repeating content initially, giving the readers the chance to click for more info (thus reducing your dupe content footprint on initial page load)
4) throw some link love at it - a little backlink weight coming into a page has a direct effect upon the perceived value of a page.... yes, you can shove some pages into the index, where otherwise they might have been put in the supplementary index, not indexed, or passed negative quality scores your way otherwise

No it's not. There is nothing wrong with duplicate content if is makes sense on the page. You can have duplicate content in headers, footers, CTA, sidebars and even in the words on the page. As long as the duplicate content is sensible and adds value you will be fine.

I agree with fisicx. Duplicate content is obviously recognized by the search engine but still showing in the results because it really cost something for the users like benefits and engagements.
