I am in the processes to redirect some of my website pages to another new website and was wondering what the best approach would be. Both sites are on the same server ( same IP ) and use https. I would try via ht access but was wondering what would be the best approach to do so and not loose to much of my organic google ranking. Whenever I setup a 301 redirect via cpanel nothing happens. Example of what I would like to archive. https://website1.com/page10 I need redirected to https://website2.com/page10

Any advise or input would be great.

Is the target page exactly the same as the source page? If so then 301 redirect is the best solution.

If not, replicate the page on the new site and then use a 301.

If the cPanel 301 isn’t working it’s possible the htaccess on the source website isn’t properly configured.

Hello Nico,

I'd suggest using htaccess to setup the redirects as that's the best way to do it. cPanel redirects may or may not work as you've experienced it yourself.

Also, if you use a CMS like WordPress, you can use a plugin to setup redirects and they also let you choose what kind of redirects you'd like to set.

Hope this helps.

hi,
try with cpanel:

Log into your cPanel.
Navigate to the Domains section and click on the Redirects option
Choose the type of redirect you would like to use for your domain

If you want to redirect a single page or directory, you can use the text field following the drop-down menu and enter the name of the folder or file.
