Redirect - best way

Hi,

I bought a .co.uk and .com domain through 1&1 (please don't flame for this!). I also have a main website on a different address, so I have changed the settings on my 1&1 Control Panel to redirect my new .co.uk and .com addresses to my main website.

Is it better (and possible) to have a landing page that automatically redirects after a few seconds, perhaps showing latest offers etc, rather than a straight redirect as it is now.

If you put my URL into a search engine, it doesn't show my main site at all, but my LinkedIn page etc. if I post my address in Facebook, it shows one of the videos on my site, which I don't mind.

I'm fed up with people saying they can't get to my site, even though I tell them to paste the address straight into their browser and not a search engine... I think that many still do not the the difference.

Hope you understand this and can help me a little.

Thanks

Pete

Yes. Just go but some hosting and use the 1and1 control panel to redirect. It will take you about 10 minutes.

1and1 really are the pits and their website builders are awful. Which is probably why people can't find you using a search engine.

Best way is to perform a 301 redirect. This means you're website has permantly moved to a new address. The search engines recognise this 301 redirect and will pass along you 'juice' accordingly.

It's an instant redirect and the search engines will update their listings within 1 to 14 days.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need help with this.

You don't need to do a 301 redirect. In fact you can't with 1and1 anyway. All you need to do is change the nameservers.
