Hello,

Before we begin, might I just say I have excellent knowledge in the whole recruitment process so, new business development, relationship building, interview arranging, sourcing, face-to-face and telephone recruitment sales. All that is takes to be a "360 Recruitment Consultant". Where my knowledge lacks is the whole documentation side of things so what documentation I need what initially starting up etc. I know you need to budget for stationary, premesis, staff, website, job boards etc but what what about insurance? registering the company? VAT? TAX? etc, this is where I am stuck, any ideas?:|

Best Regards

You might want to discuss the corporate side (the ltd) with an accountant.

In terms of the 'business' i.e the recruitment agency, you'll know online is where it's going.

I run a software company that makes a product called Prospect - a job advertising and hiring app for companies and agencies. You simply sign up and immediately you can run your own job board.

Using Prospect, you can charge clients for job postings and submit them to your Prospect site. (we allow custom domains too)

You'll now recruitment is fundamentally a database/marketing scenario; you collect resumes/cvs, you solicit and market jobs, rinse and repeat. The more you can do this digitally i.e using the web, email etc, the more efficient your operation will be.

if you need more advice, contact us via our website and we'll help.

Insurancewise you should definitely be looking into Professional Indemnity cover. Be wary of the cover provided as the cheaper policies my not include vicarious liability. This is a legal liability arising out of any negligent act, error or omission committed by placed personnel.

One cover I would strongly recommend you research, in addition to the PI, is cyber liability insurance which covers the 'online' aspect of your business.

Assuming you are operating from an office, there is the usual office contents, public and employers liabilities as well as business interruption amongst others.

Feel free to send a PM if you would any further help or information regarding any of these.

I would suggest you join the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) and the IoR (Institute of Recruiters). Both will be able to offer guidance and support in terms of legal and tax responsibilities from the off. If you get this right now then your life will be so much easier moving forward. Also look into getting a good accountant who may cost you initially but again will save you thousands moving forward.

I started up a recruitment business from scratch 3 years ago and the legal and tax side (VAT etc) are a nightmare so make sure you are finding as much out as you possibly can. The FSB has a free helpline for TAX and Legal questions the IoR also offer this specific to recruitment as well as templates of terms of business and terms of reg which can be tailored to your specific market.

Otherwise its research research and more research... I bought books and subscribed to websites and forums. For me that was the cheapest way to learn, not the easiest mind...

No one else is going to do it for you.

Good luck
