Recruiting web developers [Non-Agency]

Hi

Anyone have experience of recruiting web developers for permanent roles?

We're looking at hiring a Junior to Mid-level web application developer but there are a number of things we want to avoid

We DON'T want to go through an agency
We DON'T want hire a freelancer (we are looking to directly employ someone)
We DON'T want to work with a software house
We DON'T want to source oversees
We want to source candidates local to us

I have already tried Gumtree but haven't had a very good response as of yet

Anyone got any advice or any links to useful resources?

Cheers
Darren

If you are looking for locals then try social media (twitter - hash tagged for your location. Facebook - promote via your page and request it be shared by some local friends etc)

Is there a local IT Cluster group or perhaps some other IT Social get together in your area?

Oh Linkedin is another obvious one..

I'd imagine alot of 'freelancers' would jump at the chance of permanent role.

Have you thought about contacting local colleges and Universities to get a graduate on work experience / KTP / etc where you'll get to access the candidates skills for a minimal fee, generate more exposure for your business,
and the majority of graduates now are of an extremely high caliber.

Hi all,

Thanks for the great advice, I have directly contacted the local universities and will be engaging graduates through them and it's looking promising and excellent value for money. I would highly recommend doing this although they can be slow at getting back to you

I was thinking about using twitter but I've done something similar in the past, then suddenly bombarded by phone calls from agencies so I was trying to avoid it.

I like the idea Gooroo.

Just why I pay £15/month when I could email a client an invoice for free?

Still I do like the idea! :) Be good to see it in action.

Hi RickieSee

Gooroo's invoicing system is the basis of of an online business management system we are looking to develop (hence, why we are looking to recruit a web developer).

People use Gooroo because it saves them time and paperwork, the invoices look professional, their invoices are all stored in one place and are easily accessible.

Why don't you give it a go? It's free for 7 days but I can extend that out for 30 days just for you ;)
