Hi there.
I have a tech store that buys phones and sells them back on. I have recently had a number of phones come back blocked as the seller has gone on to report the device loat/stolen Leving myself out of pocket.
I do capture ID. Is there a way /company that deal with reclaiming this amounts of money.
Thanks
Jay

Not sure there is much you can do. Who are you hoping to recover the money from? The seller won’t pay and even if you had their ID it wouldn’t help.

@Janemorley74 - is this an online store or a B&M shop?

The local secondhand dealers will only accept fully unlocked phone plus proof of ownership. There are too many scoundrels that steal phones to sell on often to pay for illicit substances.

You could contact the seller offering them the chance to pay again before reporting this fraud to the authorities. Not only have they defrauded yourself, but almost certainly an insurance company as well. Fraud can carry up to a five year term, it can scare the odd person. Prevention is better than cure.

If you plan to buy secondhand phones, best find a safer way to do it, protecting yourself in the process. I got out the trade over 20 years ago, but I did more checks and security measures than you do today, whilst trading on a market stall.
