Recommended hosting - UK, SSL, Wordpress

Considering new hosting for the New Year.

Single domain - not eCommerce.

Wordpress - currently 11k posts, growing at 10-20 posts per day, variety of plugins

static pages - ~100 will be moved into wordpress - probably.

5 database (mysql) driven pages - outside of wordpress at present, but will be moved in

SSL required.

Must be UK based servers

no email need

Speed/Uptime/Location are far more important than price.

Any recommendations for hosts you're actually using?

Would suggest to go with SSD web hosting provider with litespeed and cloudlinux for speed and WP security.
Your requirements are quite basic even a shared hosting plan can help, are you looking for shared or VPS hosting?
Also any details on space /resources required?

Once you've narrowed down your choice of providers, do a little test with them all. Give them a call and speak to their support department - if its 24/7 - is it actually answered all the time?
Send in emails, jump on their live chats to gauge the responses. Just set a side a few mins on couple of different occasions and should give you an idea to the service you would then enjoy from whichever comes out on top.

Best of luck with your search!

If your website is more on informational not e-commerce, you don't need SSL. Because SSL is applicable only for website has used shopping card, credit card and inventory.
That’s not what Google and most browsers say.

Pretty much all hosting providers offer low cost or even free SSL so it seems daft not to use them.

The problem of these hosting providers, they didn't educate the subscriber about the purpose of SSL.

Let's say they have FAQ and Blogs about SSL, the problem is non-technical subscriber doesn't understand the jargon words of SSL.

I'm guessing you've now found a provider but as the thread has been dug up, I will add my recommendation for Freethought Internet - excellent provider, none of the BS you get with most providers.

    This is wrong.

There are numerous reasons to use HTTPS on all websites.

    For example:

    - To prevent your website being hijacked whereby content can be edited, users can be redirected to a different website, malicious scripts inserted (e.g. recording what users are doing on your website) or ads can be inserted.

    - To secure data submitted via forms, e.g. a contact form, which may contain personal information.

    - To take advantage of new HTTPS-only web features such as service workers (required for functionality such as push notifications) or HTTP/2 which can speed up your website.

I've used 3 suppliers since starting on my own 10 years ago.

    1. Tsohost - Great company in 2009. An awful company in 2019. Avoid like the plague. Slow sites, errors galore.
    2. Siteground - Ok if you own a single site, but if manage multiple sites, there better services elsewhere.
    3. 34sp - After Tsohost went down the pan with their service, I looked around and found 34sp. Great Wordpress managed service, like a budget WPEngine. Left recently purely because of a better deal.
    4. Guru - Great price, great service (so far). I'm on the reseller plan.

Agreed TSOHost used to be fantastic, but the owner first merged with another hosting company who's service was terrible, Then a couple of years later sold the company to a large well known hosting company with diabolical service.

Siteground are pretty good, but expensive.
