I am looking to replace my HP OfficeJet 5200 series with an appropriate model.

Primarily used for scanning. Black/white and colour copying with 2-sided option, less than 50 A4/month.

No real need for wireless connection.

    Any suggestions, please?

I've used an HP Office Jet Pro 8715 for 5 years with absolutely no problems (it also uses far less consumables than my previous HP cheapie).

The biggie for me was multi-page scanning; which it does well (including double sided)

Obviously the 'sales' person at Currys did their best to avoid answering any technical questions, then assured me that it would break down in order to sell a warranty.

It's been completely reliable (and if it dies tomorrow I'll replace it with the same)

I went a different route to the other suggestions as I bought a cheap laser printer but kept my redundant inkjet printer for scanning duties only.

I went down the laser route as my useage was less than yours and I was fed up with the ink cartridges drying out through lack of use

I've had 5 different HP 5200 printers at home and they have all been terrible - they all had the same fault and rather than trying to solve the fault they just kept sending me a new one of the same type. HP eventually sent me an 8730 which is a bit better but one day it just decided it couldn't be bothered to link itself to my HP laptop. I've since sworn off using HP products and I have a Dell computer and a brother printer.

Anyway...the printers I use are a bit much for home use so I don't have a solid recommendation for you, other than don't go with HP.

I have had issues with HP not connecting, having to reinstall drivers and so on. I think the current issue is dried ink nozzle, although it printed 1 page fine but the second had nothing black. Trying to get through to HP is a nightmare.

    I like @Ian J's idea, I'll have a look at that.

I had a fairly cheap Brother colour laser, but it was a hefty beast.

    Same,

I bought a samsung that was so cheap it is as cheap to get a replacement as a toner cartridge.

When i have the rare need for colour (about once a quarter) I borrow a colleagues

I have a cheap Samsung which is fine when it works.

The scanner often refuses to recognise the PC - open and close the Easy Printer Manager to fix
The driver software causes Windows to be unresponsive for 30s when the printer is starting up and connecting.
It has an annoying habit of powering up in sleep mode meaning I have to walk over to it and press a button.

I am very happy with my HP 7780, it’s inkjet but for 50 copies a month it’s no problem.
