umm? Unless i'm missing something, why arn't you using your existing hosting for your site for email etc?

if you don't have any existing hosting then it's pretty pointless giving you any advice without knowing what you are using to run the store.

From his previous thread I was under the impression he had not set up a domain or hosting yet.

Lee - if you need a domain and email addresses/plus hosting I can be of assistance. Drop me a PM with your contact details if you are interested.

Thanks,

Simon

Word of warning, should never ever have domain control and hosting in the same company.

Register the domain yourself, in your business name / address etc using a third party, plenty out there.

Lot of shady businesses effectively 'rent' you your domain, and before you know it you've spend years developing your business and are held to ransom by the company you've registered the domain with.

Happens more than you would think :)

We are an ICANN and Nominet accredited Registrar - we do not 'rent' domains to customers. We register domains for them in THEIR name and provide a control panel for them to update their own dns and domain ownership if required. We have been providing domain registration since 1995... we are not cowboys :)

I wasn't saying you do that, so apologies if that came across in that way.

But regardless of whether a domain company rents or not is pretty irrelavent. Keeping domain control and hosting seperate should ALWAYS be done - regardless :)

Eggs in one basket = bad.

We offer personalised email hosting services from £1.99 per month.

Our plans include pop3, imap, smtp, webmail, spam filters, free uk support and lot's more.

We're also fully Nominet accredited, and no funny business like renting domains etc. - good advice however!

We are a genuine UK business with our servers and staff hosted here in the UK.

PM me, or visit out site if you like more info, or ?'s.

I disagree. Choose a reputable company and you are better off. For example, we (and I am sure totalwebsolutions) ensure the domain doesn't lapse, is renewed appropriately, is properly administered, etc.

Domain registrations have separate information for owner and administrator. You are the owner, I am the administrator on your behalf. If you are talking about .co.uk/.com etc. then they also have good dispute resolution frameworks to ensure that when you own the domain you can always get control of it, even if you fall out and the administrator gets awkward.

The only domain-related problems with hosting we have seen have been where the owner manages it themselves. Or rather, they forget to renew / accidentally mess up the DNS / etc.

In the worst cases we have seen, the domain lapses and is grabbed by a domainer.
