Hi

I am trying to increase the search engine ranking of my website and have been looking for other sites to link to. One site that I have found that seems appropriate, requires me to submit a reciprocal link. How do I do this? I have seen software advertised that says it will do this for me, is it possible to do this in my fairly basic e-shop template.

I'm sorry if this is an obvious question, but I'm learning as I go.

the sites that you are linking to must be appropriate to your own site and must have 'quality value'. by this i mean that the site should have a good google pr. these two factors will in turn make the link a good addition for your site in order to improve your se rankings.

what are you using to make your shop? do you have access to the html? it's very easy to do and i'd be happy to help if you give me a few more details

a reciprocal link is where you provide a link on your site back to the site that has linked to you - a 'you help me and i'll help you' scenario.

you would place the link on your links page if you had one, or in another appropriate part of the site for example your about us page.

i've had a look at your site and there's still a lot of work, on the legal side, that you need to complete before you can even begin to start trading.

Thanks for your response. Yes I am aware of a few things that have to be added, but is there anything major and specific that you were refering to "on the legal side"?

- how your returns policy complies with distance selling regs
- your privacy policy
- how you use customer's information

Rachel there is nothing to worry about from a legal point of view.

The best way to tackle this is

1. Have a resource section on your site

Start with the most popualar sites in your field but not direct competitors. Add their link to your site. Then send them an email, something like this.

Hi,

I believe your site would be very interesting to my visitors/members so I added your link here

http://www.pleasuredirec.org/resources.php

Feel free to add our link if you find our site appropriate

It is a slow process to start with but rewarding if large on theme site use your link.

After this go looking for the not so popular sites, using the alexa toolbar will help, simply send these sites an email asking if they would like a reciprocal link?

Of course then there are the paid directories advertise on....I am sure you know the main ones

no problem anytime but don't forget to work on the legal stuff i mentioned as you cannot trade without it and it won't give customer's confidence when visiting your site if this sort of info is not available.
