Wasn't sure whether this should be in the Google vs Social Media thread, but just in case anyone misses it Google is now showing tweets in a scroll down box on the search results page.

Just tested this for "tiger woods" and there were about 10 tweets in the first page of results

Apologies if this is a repost  but I have only just come across it today

Only seems to work in google.com not .co.uk. But looking at the tweets for a number of topical subjects, the tweets are the usual mix of uninformed garbage, self promo and very occasional nugget of gold.

At least the tweets are better bresented than on bing.

That is my worry - are we suddenly going to see an overload of crap tweets?

With regards to .com - yes, you are right, it is my understanding that it will be available on .co.uk by the end of this week.

Probably. It also means one less slot for the organic results.

Not just tweets but articles from blogs and PR sites/ News sites...

Interesting... I can see everyone wanting to write articles now on the most featured blogs..

Nope don't like it! Take it away!

Still shows ten organic results on the page plus the -news (with scrolly flashy thing), then organics, then images, more organics, then video.

BTW it is now showing in .co.uk

All a bit much IMO

I just tested this with the phrase Tax

I had one monitor open on the page showing the SERPs for Tax
then posted an article on one of my blogs.
Within 30 seconds it was displaying in the latest listings real time in the
SERPs page. It didn't display long as it is such a busy topic.

The secret will be finding a popular keyword which displays the results
but doesn't update too often ;)
I new blog post a day any you could gain yourself another top 10 listing

I blogged about this. For me, google are rapidly killing the goose that lays the golden eggs!

I bet the nice people at Yahoo/bing are wetting themselves with laughter.

I mean, when i search for 'tiger woods' it is critical for me that I see such tweets as 'LMAO that gatorade dropped tiger' and ' I also had an affair with tiger'. I will now sleep more soundly in my bed, knowing that some idiot someplace claims to have slept with a man they have never met! Or that some idiot is laughing their arse off that another human being has lost an endorsement.

    FORGET. Relevance of information,

FORGET. serving up what people want
FORGET images of what you search for

THIS is what people need to know!

As for the Tax thing, yep, it will encourage even more crap spamming of just about every single item of social media that google includes.

    Talk about being naive!

Google do seem to be releasing an awful lot of new functionality recently, it's almost as if they have an Advent Calendar in place this Christmas, with a new function being released every day!

We are certainly living in even more interesting times. I just hope that google are 'thinking it through' what the impact will be of these rapid succession of new releases. For instance a moving real time feed might even distract attention away from their PPC area and their main source of income.

If you think twitter gets a lot of spam now, wait for that spam to increase with google exposure! Wait for the black hat SEOs to set up zombie PCs automatically posting to various real time source feeds used by google.

Thankfully, the realtime feed's inclusion of other sources makes for a more useful feed, e.g. press releases, newly released articles etc. Google for mobile phones.

The problem with trying to target realtime results ethically, is the very nature of them, being live. So even if you do get a mention with some new content you create today, it wont be there in the feed all day, only for a few minutes (I guess for certain popular phrases that could still be a lot of eyes, but also a shorter exposure time with lots of updates). To paraphrase a well known saying, this minute's news is last minute's chip shop paper. So that's where more permanent and more traditional SEO kicks in again.

Quite agree OWG - looks too much like Google is simply trying to keep up with appearances, rather than a genuine concern that it is staying focused on core relevancy issues.

Text fade on homepage, search suggestion, live tweets, much of local and images - simply distracts from the query, rather than adds to it, IMO.

total waste of valuable space as far as i am concerned.Google should just stick to what they are good at,and leave this garbage for other search engines.
Incorporating image results and news feeds was good, but this is an addition gone too far
