Thanks for the reply. All the supplier has advised is the Machine HS Code is 843810, which when checking on the gov website only shows 20% VAT is applicable? It would depend on what you have agreed with whoever you have purchased it from and where and how the goods will arrive in the UK.
Someone will need to make a uk customs declaration and pay any import VAT and possibly customs duties. This will be based on the whole value including transport costs.
if it hasn’t been arranged you may need to find a customs agent to complete the declaration for you. They will charge for the service.
Yes I would agree that that HS code has. Zero duty rate. A customs declaration is still required though. Thanks for the reply. All the supplier has advised is the Machine HS Code is 843810, which when checking on the gov website only shows 20% VAT is applicable?
Would you mind sharing some information on which freight shipping company that you used and UK clearance agent? To the delivery address yes
Hi thereWould you mind sharing some information on which freight shipping company that you used and UK clearance agent?
You just awaited for customs to advise you that you have an outstanding bill? You didn't use any clearance agents?Hi there
The company I bought from dealt with the shipping and then a customs representative got in touch with me, and I paid that way.
Was very easy and straightforward, although £800 customs bill !
Not necessarily as customs agents can claim shipments that do not already have an agent actively working with that importer. The company I bought from must have instigated it, as I was contacted by them, not the other way round.
Thanks thats good to know! Not necessarily as customs agents can claim shipments that do not already have an agent actively working with that importer.
If you are vat registered you should be able to reclaim any import VAT you have paid if you were the named importer. If you have provided the clearance agent of your EORI and VAT number. You will need to download a C79 from your government gateway account as proof .

Next time check what terms you are buying on and sort out your own customs agent as you can shop around for the best value for your shipment.
You can also use postponed VAT accounting which means you effectively pay and reclaim import VAT through your VAT return helping with cash flow. You need to mention this to your agent though.
Must be a huge machine for that price, there are many different sizes and much lower prices from UK suppliers. Easily found a UK supplier with a machine that makes 120 pieces per minute, how many do you need to make?Hi everyone
I have bought a churros machine from Turkey for circa £3500, £400 of that being delivery.
Is there anything I should be aware of in terms of any fees, taxes to pay?
Delivery address is in the UK
Thanks
