There are many ways to promote your new website. First of all, make sure that it is optimised for search engines (keywords, links, content, etc.), as it increases your original search traffic. Google AdWords is usually more expensive than facebook, twitter and instagram, and you need to do keyword research and create optimised landing pages if you want to get a good return on investment. You can also promote it on your personal LinkedIn profile, so your connection will be aware of your new website, and it doesn't cost you anything. It also depends on the business, and its requirements, as some business requires more social media advertisements than others.

There are various ways to advertising online, like through pay-per-click (PPC) adverts, banners, and social media and pop ups. These can be an excellent way to promote your brand and increase traffic to your website. Advertising online can deliver visitors immediately via a quick click on your ad with results you can analyse and measure.

You should begin with listing the business in different online directories. There you add details about the business name, address, phone number and website address. You should at least list your website on Google. Then you can move on to Google AdWords. This will take you to the top of Google search results. What you need to do is to research what words people search, so your Adwords campaign matches what people search. You could also create a blog on your website with interesting and educational content, which will bring traffic to your website.

I forgot to add that it's important that you make your website mobile/tablet friendly. This will be rewarded in search engine results. There's also the option that you write guest posts on highly ranked websites in your niche. They will give backlinks that lead to your website.

Best of luck!

Hi,

Here's a list of things you can do to ensure your website gets the exposure it needs once it's first created.

  1. Sign up to Google Analytics
  2. Sign up to Google Search Console
  3. Submit your sitemap.xml and robots.txt in Google Search Console
  4. Register your business on FaceBook Pages
  5. Register your business on Twitter
  6. Register your business on Google+ Brands
  7. Register your business on Instagram
  8. Register your business on Linkedin
  9. Register your business on any other social network that may be relevant to your business.
  10. Search Udemy for FREE SEO courses. There's plenty and will give you the basics to optimising your website for free.
  11. Find online directories relevant to your business and register on them. Thomson Local, Yelp, FreeIndex & Niche specific ones etc.
  12. Find online communities and forums, don't spam, participate and promote your products/services as and when appropriate.
  13. Consider paid advertising Google, Twitter, FaceBook & Instagram etc
These are just a few tips to get you started. If you put a lot of effort and focus into the above tips, you're guaranteed to improve your online presence. It's simple but time-consuming, hence why people tend to hire freelancers and agencies like myself to manage their online marketing for them.

Good luck, let us know how it goes!

As @Rickeo mentioned those are the basic things. But here are some tips as well:

The thing to remember is that SEO isn't a magic bullet. It's important, but no one knows the exact algorithms the SEs use, and each one is different so all you can do is optimize the best you can. There happens to be a few things that you should just always do whenever you make a new website. Don't stress over every little thing, just make sure you are doing it, this should just become kind of automatic for you.

Make sure you fill in your meta tags
Create good content
Include your keywords
Be sure that your .htaccess is set up correctly
Make a robots.txt file

Apart from the Udemy part, this is textbook set-up of a new website. Great advice.

  • Start with a well coded, modern, fast loading responsive website that will keep you in good stead for a few years at least.
  • Fill it with great unique content (and professional images)
  • Get all the basics sorted as mentioned above.
  • Get the on page SEO nailed right from the start before you launch.
  • Check page load speeds across all pages (or most important ones if a large site).
  • Get a decent server host (don't go for bargain bin shared hosting) Aim for the most reliable, fastest UK based server you can afford... ask about the following BEFORE signing up for hosting package:
    • If possible use object caching such as APC on the server.. ask your server host about this.
    • Ask for uptime server stats and check this online (also set up downtime / ping alerts on your homepage)
    • Ask if they can install any server mods that you may require in future.
    • Ask about the backup policy for your files AND database

Rickeo’s post is fairly conclusive but remember it is all about the constant effort of maintaining all these approaches (that’s why some companies outsource this).

The saying is content is king and if you can generate content and produce it on all social media platforms then you will see movement.

Are you business to business or business to public, if you were of the latter then a regular stream of content will be sucked up by all social media platforms. Also consider providing motivation for consumers to “like” your posts.

Be careful of the over use of social media, you should have a target audience that would be open to communication.

Look up Can I be your Friend? on YouTube

Lastly, networking events and word of mouth play a huge role in promoting your business not just your website.

Kind Regards

Spread awareness by marketing and paid advertisement. Generate maximum backlink to your website. Have sale and discount offers then promote them on social media network. Generate affiliate so that other businesses list your business on their website and you marketing network spreads.

Something I don't think has been mentioned yet - create a Facebook group for people interested in whatever your site is about and spend time making it appealing for people to join. Get lots of members, then you have lots of options to reach the members (and promote your site) for free.

The main source of traffic is your website content and content promotion to other channels. Improve and update that content that can give you high traffic. Identify under-performing content from blog or service pages. Republish content with helpful information and visuals. Take help of social media networks and highly authoritative social bookmarking platforms to promote your content.

Let me summarize it for you...

SEO -- you need to learn more, as wrong move can do more harm than good. if you buy a service, don't go cheap. you'll get what you pay for.
Social media influence -- reach out to influencers, or build your own influence. you also need to have plenty of social media shares, as this will help in your SEO.
Ads -- well, you can't go wrong with this, but you need to pay per click or per impression.

Promoting a website just need your complete plan and marketing strategies. You can use authenticated rules or can try out new ways to promote. I would suggest digital marketing is the best option you can use to boost your site. You can use Ad Words, SEO, and SMM, etc for better results. LinkedIn is also a very effectual way to promote a site with so many professional figures it will surely get a boost up. There are so many ways to do this single task; all you have to do is use the correct platform.
