Prices on website or request a call

I have launched Tour Operator to offer safari and hiking experience to Tanzania (among other things)

At the moment I have prices from x so someone need to request a quote.

I am able to provide fixed cost package for the trip excl flights ( I am ATOL holder) as at the moment flights prices are so volatile.

Do u think people will be interested to know the package cost and book direct using the online booking system? Meaning booking their own flights. Or it would be better to ask people to call or email?

Thanks

Every other site selling tours indicates the price.

If your tours are 1-2-1 and very bespoke then I'd expect to have to contact your for the details. But I would like to see some examples costs.

Thank you. Yes, it is bespoke but I have like 20 packages which I have fixed prices. I will include the prices but exclude flights as I do not have control, especially at the moment

This is just a personal view so take it as you will.

  • If I search for holidays like your Tanzania one, I definitely want a price indicator – not necessarily a fixed price, but certainly an indication so I can compare it with other operators. Price isn’t the decider though and if it’s too cheap, I get suspicious.
  • I also want a daily itinerary so I can compare that with other operators.
  • Inevitably I will have questions, so I need to contact you (email is ok).
I might be unusual in this but in daily life I’m always having to make decisions. When I go on holiday I want someone else to make decisions for me – except perhaps, what I have for lunch. The idea of co-ordinating and booking my own flights is a real turn-off.

As with all sales , the more information you give the less time spent on time wasters or telling the long story hundreds of times, which enable you to spend valuable time doing other things better

Make the site as personal as you can with images and history of guides and relevant people , hotels and so on

There is a balance here, dependent on what you are trying to achieve..

Too little info, they wont engage, too much they won't feel the need to call

Who is your customer and how price-sensitive are they?

Why are they booking with you and how price sensitive is the reason?

If they have to go to another site to book the flights, why not book everything on that site?

Will they be less protected if they book the flights and package separately?

I avoid any site that makes you contact them to find out prices. In most cases, this means they will charge you whatever they think you can afford to pay and you have to them put up with a sales person harrassing you for weeks.

There needs to at least a base price on the website.. "starting from £9.99" etc to give visitors some clue on the prices.

That's far, far worse in my view. It will always be a useless teaser.

Like the many "from" prices on engineered wood flooring I came across on ebay that, are the price for a small sample, which I would expect to get for free from a reputable supplier.

Obviously, I am not suggesting to put a completely misleading price.... this is a completely incorrect and ignorant assumption that you have jumped to.

If you are going to put prices, make sure they are legitimate prices.

I agree with previous comments that having a “starting from” price is probably best. However, if you are offering a level of personalisation/bespoke tours, it may be a good selling point to offer a “consultation” or similar to help customers build a package.

I would personally experiment, perhaps run an A/B test (request quote vs direct booking, for example) to see which converts better.

If you have a set amount of packages then why not do it all through your site?

Not sure how your site was created but why not create a filtering system that provides the customer with the package price after selecting their preferred options

It’s a simple but buggy site. All of the features I’d normally expect to see on a safari tour site are missing.

I run a travel company and have been in the business for 25 years so have seen a whole plethora of websites.
It all depends on your market. If possible sell as much online as you can as this is what users now expect. Flights are a different beast to deal with and you will need a reliable API feed from a provider who is strong in carriers to your destination.
I run a niche sports breaks business and UK short breaks which we have launched offline only.....but we only sell to the trade. Working on b2c and that market demands online conversion as far as you possibly can.
Send over any questions....I've built all our own websites thus far and working on a couple more at the moment.
