    OK, someone had to start the first chat about it. Quite a take up in the UK considering it's not officially released here yet. There's a Pokéstop outside our office and it often has a lure attracting both Pokémon and players. It led me to thinking how this could help local shops.

    A lure lasts a half hour and it draws Pokémon characters to the area. In turn, that attracts players looking to catch the Pokémon while the half hour glut of characters lasts. There are Pokéstops very close to local businesses such as bars and cafes, what if they kept buying lures to attract players and advertised the fact they were providing the lures. Would it attract more business?

    I guess a big factor is going to be how long this initial boom lasts. Is it going to remain popular or quickly dwindle down to hardcore fans only? Also what's the process/cost for setting up one of these "Pokéstops" and buying lures? Interesting stuff for sure though.

    The game is free and you're in a position to put down lures straight away. There are several packs of incense (the lure) with 25 costing 1250 Pokécoins. The coins are 2,500 for £14.99 in the real world so for £15 you can have 50 lure = 25 hours of attracting Pokémon and players.

    Today's news suggests future changes will include the ability for retailers to join in the fun.

    Someone has hacked in to the programming and found references to sponsors and McDonalds in the coding. There is apparently the happy meals for November will be Pokemon and the rumour is certain key characters will only be available in McDonalds stores.

    So I guess McDonalds think it is a money maker for them

    The story isn't the Pokemon. Well, it is, like, but the real story is Augmented Reality.
    The Pokemon may Die, but this more or less confirms that Augmented Reality will live on long after Pokemon shuffle off.
    And no, I'm not playing it. Bet I would if I had a smart phone though.........

    I think AR has only just started and will go far beyond gaming. If you look up Microsoft's hololense on YouTube you will get a great idea of where this AR will end up. The gaming uses are fairly obvious but it could end up being a useful tool in business and the medical world.

    Think of all the teenage Zomboids this new technology will create in the near future.
    Artificial Reality and Virtual Reality will merge into a powerful new drug.

    No more walking along the street staring down into their Smartphones
    now they will be shooting each other in the streets,
    hundreds will get together for organised battle fests in the parks.

    Pokémon Go is nearly doing that, you have to be near a Gym to fight and take ownership so you are very likely to see the people you are fighting.

    My wife & I both play it and out for our evening Pokéwalk last night, we met lots of other people doing just the same. Only difference between us & them is about 30 years, we were both around when the first Pokémon appeared :D

    There are some great stories and photos on Reddit of these impromptu meet ups. It seems to be all ages and races in all sorts of neighbourhoods.

    My only worry is that the story will take a dark turn sooner or later. Someone is going to step out in to a road because they are too busy looking at their phones or these hot spots or going to turn in to mugging hot spots.

    We're already there, not only was the guy that caused the crash playing PG but so was one of those that drove into him. Interestingly, the game doesn't work properly when you're going anything faster than a run.

    Adults who have played it on & off since they were at least 13. Whatever you think of the game, it got my wife & I off our backsides for a walk most evenings last week. I play it for amusement, you wouldn't find me rushing for a rare Pokemon.

    I downloaded it for the kids at the weekend. They never want to go out with the dog for a walk but on opening this and seeing pokemon in the woods nearby, we spent the morning trekking round the woods in search, and bumping into lots of people doing the same. Great for getting them out of the house walking. Poor dog was knackered tho;

    I don't agree with using a mobile while driving either and I don't understand why they are using them in the car. Niantic obviously thought of this and designed it so characters don't appear at anything more than a jogging pace nor does it track distance travelled. There's a campaign to increase the speed threshold so it works at cycling speeds.

    How does it confirm any of that. Nintendo have been trying the exact same thing with their own brand of digi pets for at least 5 years. I remember seeing a prototype for the 3DS around 6 years ago and it never took off. There was a lot more VR based games before that.

    Pokemon wont die off,,, they're a brand like Disney or Cadbury and will have to seriously mess up to not stay around.

    AR is just a gimmick, its a fad and there's no proof its the future.

    AR Is very much the future and we have not even started to scratch the surface of what it is capable of yet. Just look at some of the Microsoft Hololense demos on YouTube to get an idea of its power as an entertainment medium and a business tool.

    In the medical world both AR and VR is being used to treat PTSD and loads of other mental conditions. There are experiments being done in the world of surgery allowing the surgeons to superimpose a patients MRI over their patients.

    The helmet for the new F35 is the height of AR technology - When the pilot looks down or to the side the pilot can see through the plane and have all of his instruments and radars in front of him at all times.

    There is also its uses in CAD and education to take in to account as well. There are reasons why Microsoft, Lucas Arts, Magic Leap and many others are pouring billions in to development of AR systems.

    Its not real you know and I can prove it .
    Last year deer were getting on our football pitch a low point on a gate was raised and they could not get in .
    This week a Pokemon was reported to be there and nobody did anything

    They are also talking about trialing it in criminal trials, so the jury can be shown the crime scene as it was found, avoiding the expense of taking them there months after the event.

    It's not currently possible to add a Pokestop, it was a few days ago but they were probably swamped with requests - there was no charge to request them.

    There is lots of talk that businesses will be allowed to add a Pokestop which should attract players and they will be charged based on the number of people the Pokestop attracts.

    The actual graphics are low tech for a reason. This helps it run on as many phones as possible as most kids end up with "hand me down" type phones to play on. It also helps save battery life so you can play for more than 20 minutes

    I never stated it was better for youngsters to not be paying attention to politics, I said there was a lot less moaning going on.

    I think it reflects more on the younster's depth of convictions rather than anything else.
