One of things on the roadmap to finance this site was building an aggregator service (think - price comparison) and we've got the first part near ready for launch hence I'm posting a link to here to see what you think. It'll appear in the menu, etc, at a later date before anyone comments you cannot navigate to this page anywhere - that is intentional ?.

You can click links as much as you like as we are not charging any of our clients (advertisers) during this Technical Test phase and not all are live and ready anyway. We're just tinkering and testing so nothing better than getting some forum members to comment!

We're going with banking first as we, my business behind UKBF, already has existing contracts with almost all the bank/current account providers in the UK so it's low hanging fruit and an easy MVP product to test the water with.
It's a very simple concept, view the key points the advertisers provide (they have an admin portal behind this site they manage their listings through) and the visitor looks at options and clicks through to the advertisers site.
They can pay a premium to be "Featured" and we've highlighted ANNA in this instance.

The regular members of this forum are not expected to be regular users of this service, traffic to this page will driven by targeted marketing (think Google Ads primarily). So I'm not looking for whether you would use it yourself, unless of course you are looking at different business account options.

Have a look on your phone. Everything useful is below the fold.

The styling of the boxes means the RH column is squished up - could be a lot wider.

Can’t do most of the things in your blurb as they aren’t in the listing (interest rates and software integration for example).

Could do with some filters to only list those with no fees and other options.

Going to be a great portal for those coming here asking about banking, insurance maybe even accountants the scope is endless great work
Totally agree, but look at what his says you can do in the blurb. And then try and do a comparison.

The options and text is provided by the advertiser, so if they don’t say they have any accounting software integration for example then the user will have to assume they don’t have any accounting software integration. Same goes for interest rates, although is fair to work on the basis that interest on balances doesn’t exist any more these days.

I’m looking on my iPhone as there isn’t a right hand column (actually there’s no columns for me). The boxes stack for me which is what they’re meant to do, how are you seeing columns? (Unless you using one of your weird browsers in which case it doesn’t matter ??)

Yeah filters is stage 2, this is just MVP for now to test the concept.

I'm looking at Cashplus using Safari on my iPhone. It says Bank Transfers' on the left and '3 free per month then 30p' on the right. Because of the huge amount of padding and the 'ukbf-small-info' style with of 60% the RH content is very narrow and ends up on two lines. Reduce the padding on a phone and the LH column width and it will look better.

I agree you are limited by the information provided by the banks but the blurb clearly says I can compare certain features so I'd expect to be able to do just that. It's not the listing that's the issue, it's the blurb.

It's a great tool and can easily be expanded for all sorts of services - I build loads of them for all sorts of things so I know they are very popular. One key feature that client always ask for is ratings. It's what customers like to see when doing comparisons.

One other thing - too much orange. Especially on Anna. Leave the orange button but change the border colour so you have contrast. This also applies to other areas on UKBF but that's for another day.

Most of these charge for Bank Transfers?!

    Paul.
That's the market now, especially the digital account providers. The incumbent banks tend not to but the challengers tend to.
We had to pause pushing this service though as turns out we needed to get UKBF to be FCA registered which is due for completion in November, hence the current push of the webinars and podcast whilst we wait for the FCA registration to be in place.

Wouldn't have been useful when I started my video production business. Or the previous one.

Reason is what I need is the easiest one to set up. E.g. when I asked one bank, they wanted a business plan etc... in a specific format. That would've added a ton of time.

However, my current provider was really easy. They set it up really quickly.

So no. What I would've wanted was 'which bank account is the easiest to set up...' criteria. I just don't care about all the other stuff.

Didn’t think I would be in favour of it, but after looking and seeing that there is a structure to it then must say it looks very useful.
It is a shame, from my point of view, that the “Apply” button was only visible behind the ”More info” button. Having accidentally pressed it - it required an extra commitment to come back. With regard to featured content, appreciate that is an income stream but typically like sponsored ads on Google I give them a miss. Happy for that to be their loss rather than mine.

A good topic would be a review comparison of accounting systems. I think it would need to have a fixed structure of pre-determined features that required the providers to say yes or no to rather than omit as they often do. A “user” score feature would great but sadly too subjective to be worthwhile.

Oops - didn’t realise this was such an old thread. ?.

Yeah we launched, then found out we needed to be registered and regulated by the FCA, so had to pull the service until we got all that in place. We are now back on the case and on the cusp of a re-launch :) ... which will include the accounting software you reference too.

I did wonder about the regulations but presumed you were not doing the advertising. Good to know – and am surprised a certain Bank of Antandec advert is allowed.

Hopefully if you introduce an accountancy software one you’ll cover the requirements of the user not the provider; otherwise it will be seen for what it is. Hope you do take up the challenge :).

So at the risk of resurrecting an old thread, what would you contribute here... :)
Nothing unless you were serious about doing something.

Some of the views are useful but nothing will happen unless you can pull it into a cohesive comparison between various suppliers.

Deciding on the comparative attributes and features of a product is key. When deciding to use a particular piece of accounting software the user must ask themselves a number of important questions as to what they want from it. Having asked themselves those questions they should then be able to review the features on a comparative basis to see which provider might be suitable. Then go and grill them and see the product demonstrably meeting their requirements.

Typically you see the following recommendations: “I recommend XYZ; it’s really good, cheap and we like it.” Later on, “We got it but it doesn’t have an integrated project costing system.” Okay more fool them!

Would your design template be restricted to that used on the “Banking” site? Could you have a tabular comparison (features down the page; providers across the page)? Ratings could be useful but perhaps dangerous. By choice I steer clear of a lot of systems because I’ve examined them and decided against; so am not a user but have a valid input.

Personally I’d be very glad to see a comparison as above and thus would happily contribute extensively also subject to above.
