Please recommend a cheap tablet suitable for Office 365

Original Post:

Amazon Fire tablets are frequently on sale and are currently on sale until midnight tonight:

I have one that I use almost exclusively as an eReader, but I know that they support the O365 suite. Worth looking into which of the apps are available though, I'm aware of the typical ones working (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) but I'm not so sure about the more niche ones like Visio etc.

It depends what you mean by cheap. I have found cheap android tablets tend to last 18 months before they have slowed to a crawl and the battery has failed and it was driving me mad. However the cheapest Ipad at £330 lasted me six years before the battery packed up and it was still receiving updates with no slowdown in use. Personally i prefer to buy once. Cheapest Ipads are £300 at Costco at the moment.

I must admit, this one is just 6 mo old so could easily turn out to be a lemon in due course but works well for what I need. It's a Chinese import which will not have a warranty worth it's salt but it works OK

The camera quality is OK but not as good as my phone for instance and the sound quality is only OK (good with bluetooth headphones) but mine was US$79 - it's gone up a bit since I bought mine (IIRC I had to side load google play).

Aliexpress/Bangood etc can supply good tablets (I've only tried android) but Amazon and Argos will also do some reasonable stuff.

If you want to have lots of tabs open and run all programs at the same time, they will suffer, but for light browsing and email, they will work fine.

I also had a Chuwi that was both android and windows!

If security is at all important to you make sure the device comes with Android 12. The device manufacturer is responsible for releasing updates. The big names usually support the next three releases of Android then stop. If you buy something with Android 9 on, then it may update when you get it (or it may not) but you may find it has a short lifespan.

Don't you love the names they come up with. I'd concur with this though, for basic stuff on the go, use when travellng etc, a cheap one will do fine.

For gaming, mine coped with space invaders / Galaxians very well

I think Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 will be suitable. It has a large enough screen of 10.4 Inches. You can choose 64GB or 128GB of storage. Long lasting battery. And it's compact enough to carry around.
Depends what the OP wants as he's looking for a "cheap" tablet. There are cheaper options than the Tab S6 which is £300+

Old thread but what did you go for in the end?

My kids have used FIRE tablets (under £80) for youtube and throwing around (in protective case) and they have so far been good. BAttery life is pretty great for basic things too. Sound quality and build feels well too.

Id prefer an android tablet as I feel the amazon layout is a little weird and restrictive (android phone user here) but maybe Im not using it right. I managed to get Google play on one of the tablets too so we could use Google meet.

I Bought an android HP tablet years ago and I think its no longer updating as they killed off the android version - annoying weird tactics to make you loose your money.

I have bought a couple no brands (Tecsun & something else) from China, very well specced for the price (under £100) and they are great!
