Hi all, any advise on places to celebrate New year? I would really like to go somewhere different with lots of different cultures and somewhere that throws good parties for the New year?!

Any ideas?

Sydney is great if you don't mind standing in the same place from 1pm, being jostled occasionally and being open to the elements - at least if you want to be near the Opera House or North Shores.

Edinburgh is OK if you don't mind the cold and the possibility of it being called off.

London if you don't mind the cold.

I'm now a bit over the doing the new year thing so will be replacing the cultural aspect with heavy refreshment somewhere. Anywhere.

New York was great for us nearly 2 years ago. We went to the St Andrews Bar just of Times Sq - I think it's moved now. It was weird coming out at about 3am to a deserted city though... I mean... it's New York - the city that never sleeps. Great vibe for New Years though.

This year, it may be Stirling Castle for us, although when we went last year it seemed less impressive than the first time we went... Budget cuts I guess.

Stay at home and watch it on the telly. You can keep warm and dry.Access to "cheap" refreshments. No problems with drink driving and no worries about missing the last night bus and then fighting for the last cab.
I of course will be in bed by 22:00 hrs as I have for the last 25 years.I really cannot be doing with all the false hilarity and people forcing themselves to have a good time.
