Hello

in the process of seting up my own business have a qustion regarding having a pesonal email address using my company domain (name(at)mybiz.info) is this a good idea or should i keep my personal and business emails unrelated.

When I first started in business, I was mixing business and personal in one email address.

After a while, it gets messy because I got so many forwards from friends and family that the important business emails got lost in the jumble.

Keeping your personal and business emails separate is a prime idea. If, for what ever reason, you sell your business in the future, you will not have the worry of your personal information being available to whomever purchases the company.

More facts at the ready if you'd like them.

I don't think that I'm alone in saying this, but I am very sceptical of any business that doesn't have it's own domain e.g. @businessname.com because most of the people that I come into contact with, these days, that e-mail me from throw away mail accounts are scammers and spammers. Right or wrong the perception is that if you can't spend the small amount to get a domain then in my harsh opinion your not that serious about your business!!

It's true that alot of people have this perception. Right or wrong doesn't matter - the fact is it may cost you a client.

Very true, I saw an advert for a firm the other day, all looked very professional, they had a website...then the email address was something like [email protected]

Agreed.

It's bad enough when people reply from [email protected] but even worse when they expect you to send to it...

Web Hosting / E-mail / Domain name isn't going to cost you £100 a year these days.

I don't think it's always down to price, this firm had a domain and probably just didn't know how to setup email for it.

Agreed, perhaps it's the ISP that's to blame for not advising them accordingly?

Either way it looks unprofessional
