PDF files too big

When I use my PDF creator to turn office docs into pdfs, they end up as quite small files which are easy to email.

However my problem comes when I scan documents because I do not have them as a soft copy already. The resultant files seem to be about 0.5MB per page, and it is difficult to email these docs if there are a large number of pages.

Is there any way of making these files smaller?

Scan them at a lower resolution!

The scanned pages will be saved as images not text, that's why they end up so big. If you scan the page use an OCR to convert the image into text then save normally.

Use something like Yousendit.com which has a much higher file size limit and is more secure into the bargain.

There's a free trial.

There are probably some similar applications that are free as well, if the cost is an issue
He has to store them on his computer, so they nee compressing a bit anyway. Also email is easier than using a third party service.
