Payment Processing Recommendations

Hi, not sure if this is the correct place to post this topic but I am looking for recommended payment processing companies. I am a mail order company so wont need a chip and pin machine as I dont have any walk in customers, I only need an online platform. Payments are processed over the phone and through a website.

I am currently using Cardsave (Part of Worldpay) but the fees have never been the best and the customer service has done downhill. I am in the middle of having a new website built (Woocommerce so will need to integrate without too much trouble) so seems an ideal time to change to a new provider.

Main requirements is sensible fees, a reliable service and good customer support (Ideally UK based with a phone number that gets through to someone without being sent in circles for ages)

I have searched Google but with so many to pick from I have no idea who best to go with so wanted to get some real life feedback from people using these services.

Thanks for any help or suggestions

Just about to post that I've been with Stripe for a couple of years; never had a problem, but realised they have no phone number! But never needed to phone.
Have used them for several client's accounts (ecommerce & online payment forms) too & no complaints.

Thanks for your reply. I just had a look on the Stripe website and as you say there is no phone number for sales or support so for me it wont even make the shortlist.

Spent part of today calling around a few places and for now it looks like I might go with Opayo.

And another vote for stripe. Proving to be a very efficient and cost effective payment provider.

Thanks for everyones replies. I have looked at Stripe and I agree with @AlanJ1 that 1.4% +20p does seem excessive.

I have narrowed the choice down to Opayo, Take Payments and Valitor/Rapyd.

In comparison to Stripe, Opayo and Take Payments quote 0.35% for domestic debit cards so even just based on £5000 a month it works out to £70 with Stripe or £17.50 with Opayo / Take Payments. Both have very good Trust Pilot ratings (4.8 and 4.9)

Does anyone have direct experience with either of these providers relating to quality of service? I will be using the online platform and website integration to process payments. I wont be using a handheld terminal.

I am leaning more towards Opayo but Take Payments have slightly better rates overall. Take Payments also provide a plug in for website integration. Opayo is an extra $79 for a 3rd party plug in.

You also need to consider trust. I’ve never heard of opayo so if that was your only option I’d probably exit the site and buy from someone else.

@fisicx Opayo used to be SagePay a few years ago. Now owned by Elavon.
Ok. But I’ve still never heard of them. Which would make me a little wary.

And was originally created by Protx - we've been using them all since 2007 with the same fundamental integration and account. Not had any issues that spring to mind, but we do use Worldpay (streamline!) online + terminal merchant accounts (and Amex) with them rather than their Elavon offering which wasn't available initially.

Parent company (Elavon) is one of the largest merchant banks in the world.
Yes, but if I was on a site and the only payment option was opayo I’d be a bit wary. If it was clear this was the new name for SagePay then I’d be more confident. Consumer confidence is an important element in combatting cart abandonment.
