Paying commission (%) for leads

Hi.

Question for you, our small construction have been doing very well and for the last 10+ years we had constant jobs, refurbishment, extensions, small new builds etc etc, everything you expect from a construction firm, but those jobs have been really only recommendations, with no clear website or nothing its surprisingly been going well.

So now, that I have joined my father in helping the company, I think its time to expand, in terms of reaching out to other professionals (architects, surveyors etc) and exchanging leads and grow further as a business with a quality networking professional relationships.

What in your experiences or thoughts would be the best approach for doing so? Emailing/calling architectural firms, planning consultants, surveyors etc and saying what? We'd offer a sensible commission fee based on the contract price, would they be interested?

Looking at local council planning permissions and obtaining architects/planning consultants details from third party plans and giving it a shot?

I'd appreciate your thoughts and views on this subject. Also what would a decent percentage for commission be in your eyes?

Thanks

Exchanging leads is a great idea, networking even with your competitors, jobs that are too big for you you give away etc. This is all about face to face getting to know people.

This doesn't tie in with exchanging leads as above. Local professionals generally don't want to be dirtied by cash payments, they will give you leads because they like you and you help them.

Paying for leads is a different game, and involves professional lead generation businesses that know how to generate leads and sell them.

Could you contact someone like the RCIS and see if they can maybe get you in a newsletter or something? There are quite a few professional bodies who may be able to at least help you get your name out there. Maybe have a look online for a digital magazine or something related to your trades, we have managed to get clients in magazines for marketing purposes and they tend to return very well in terms of exposure/leads.

    Best of luck.

Thanks guys, would you guys recommend emailing architectural firms and/or planning consultants and ask to work together?

Wont they probably think we're just another or random firm who's looking for jobs, until we tell them we're certified/accredited ISO9001/140001,, Construction Online, CHAS and all that. Would that mean anything to them?

How would I approach RICS to ask them?

As you guys know on the council websites there are planning lists updated regularly, in which you can see someones plans with details of agents (architects, etc) who put the application through, how about contacting them about the specific project and asking them to contact the client/homeowner on our behalf and ask them for permission to quote on their job.

No. Councils refuse to issue such a list even under FOI as they believe it contravenes the data protection act as addresses can be linked to individuals and be used for marketing purposes.

So you have to resort to age old stereotypes such as dismantled motorbikes or old sofas in the front garden, or regulation standard green coloured front door paint.
