Pay Per Click Advertising

Say I do pay per click campaign on google, what is there to stop my competitors clicking my add loads fo times to waste up my credits and cost me a bomb with no sales, can you block certain IP addresses or something?

New Business

there was a program on tv where a business was getting loads of clicks and not many orders, then he went to a convention in his line of work, his other competitors went too, for the 3 day convention the clicks halved and when the convention ended and they doubled again
the competitors were just clicking on his site, so that shows you it does happen

Google and others do have ways of monitoring who is doing what to help prevent this kind of activity. It's in their best interest to stop this and you can ask them to look into your ads if you think it might be happening to you. If it is they will (probably) credit you for the clikcs.

Can't believe they haven't let you just look who's clicking and repeated ip's or something with no orders allow you to block them, it's first thing that came to mind with the products I'll be selling. Quite worrying.

Interesting,

yep the anti spam on mosts cpc engines are weak, hwever when I have requested data regarding our ad campaigns on adwords, its not been as in depth as I would have liked.

The click detective is a good idea, however they will need to have, or develop better anti spam than the engines have in place already. This is possible, as have written anti spam filters which have nearly matched those which remain secret on the the cpc engines I have used to generate revenue, this is done to validate the revenues being paid by the cpc engine to us.

I think google lean more towards conversion and actual sales when looking at the effectiveness of a link.
