patio advice

I have just laid 20m2 of patio onto MOT base with sharp sand and then the flags and then pointed with building sand 4:1 mix.

The whole garden is sodden and has recently had a land drain installed to try and allieviate the problem

My problem is that the pointing has hardened but is still wet as if the water from under the paving it evaporating through

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards

OK - Just need some info:

- How long has the patio been down?

- How long since the land drain went in?

- How long has the garden been sodden prior to that?

- What type of ground / soil do you have?

- What went under the MOT 1 sub-base?

It can take a few weeks for a patio to fully dry out - you could be lucky.

If it's a ground problem then it sounds like the ground hasn't had time to dry out - it can take months to years and after the wet April we've had it could well be sodden again.

You should really have 3 or 4 inches of hardcore under the MOT1 - compacted then MOT on top, compacted again then sand / slabs.

I guess all you can do is wait and see, you realy don't want to rip it up unless you have to!

As standard should lay on a 50 mil bed of hardcore and 50mil of sharp. if drainage is that bad i would put shingle stone in between layers allowing any water to move freely. also is it a soak away and is that working as intended ? whats the soil like?
