Password protect part of website

Hi

I am looking for some assistance. I run a professional wedding and portrait photography business. Having built a site that I am pleased with, there is still an area that I need to work on, however I am unsure what would be the best way to do so.

I have a client section on my site. This is where my customers can go to view their proofs from the shoots. I would like to make the galleries password protected.

What would be the best way to do so? I am a novice in the field of Javascript, please keep it simple

Do you have cPanel? This makes it easy to password protect certain areas. When we work on an area, we work on it on a sub domain that is locked down.
