Page optimization, back links, frequent content - what else?

I recently engaged a company to do some guaranteed (and very cheap) SEO for me - they only get paid when I see top 20 results.

Key word 1 = was google page 3 now page 2
Key word 2 = was google page 4 now page 2
Key word 3 = was google page 4 still page 4
Key word 4 = was google page 10 still page 10

From what I can see the company did very minimal on page optimization i.e. added H tags to a few titles and have in the last month registered me with several directories.

So far I have not had any new Google backlinks and page rank has not increased and they have not requested articles from me to post on blogs or sites.

Could the slight increase be down to me adding frequent content or is there lots of secret seo stuff he is doing in the back ground that I can't see?

I know I only pay for results so shouldnt grumble as they are slowly appearing, but I still feel I should be seeing/getting more!

Thanks

Glenn

Seo Is not a guarantee no one can even say this. But this takes time its a good way to link first as the search engines can take a while to list all these then they might do the page seo after. SEO all depends on who your competitors are and how many quality links they have etc......

Are they sending you weekly reports so you can see the progress etc...

For linking put into google "yourdomain" miss out the www bit.

I'd say it's your new content as the site is still very poorly optimised. Your home page title (probably the absolute most important element in the whole site) is complete pants which means the SEO company either doesn't know what it is doing or isn't bothered.

If the site and page architecture were properly structured you would solve half your problems - navigation is all over the place and the pages just don't flow logically. On the jobs pages there are 370 lines of code before you get to the unique content. What hasn't the SEO company pointed this out to you?

So to answer your question, being patient isn't going to help, you should be complaining bitterly to the SEO company who haven't even spotted the lack of H1 on most of the pages and the completely useless titles on every page.

Not even looked at your site but you mention you have no new backlinks, I would recommend you look at the google alerts and set up some alerts for your domain, then you will know if you are getting some google backlinks at least as and when they happen and where from.

Toolbar page rank - the one you can see, is only up dated now and again. The last time was a month ago and it's not a great indicator of how well you'll rank for any term - just a measure of the external links you have.

Be very careful with this - you can get short term improvements in ranking by just getting tons of crapy links. After a while these get discounted anyway and, in some cases, can actually have a negative effect. So, in the long term, you go backwards. The guy who got you on page one for a week, meanwhile, is laughing all the way to the bank.

The first step for you is to request the company inform you as to how they are going about improving your ranking. Then you have to decide whether you feel the improvements in rankings will be able to maintained - pay attention to the relevancy and authority of the links.

It can take upto six months for some links to take effect others a couple of days. It is a marathon and if you are getting a cheap service then you are getting cheap links so you are looking at the marathon scenario. At the end of the day you get what you pay for in this type of service as there is no other way of doing it.

I would wait and see what affect any work might have. Changes aren't going to happen overnight.
Any new links that they have got you will age and hopefully increase in value with time.

Google backlinks don't always show and a PR update usually takes place every 3 or 4 months.

You might want to think about some on-site issues such as adding regions to title of the jobs pages http://www.tagrecruitment.co.uk/index.php/it-vacancies/113-job115 rather than just the more link.

On the featured IT Jobs on the left, why not use the job title as the anchor text.
