This firm has just phoned me and said they can guarantee Page 1 organic listing for a chosen search term, unfortunately when I asked for the Keyword phrase required they couldn't do it! However they could get me to page one for a search term with 5000 searches a month
Yipee!
Has anyone had experience with this company or similar?

I'd only consider their offer if I could choose the keywords and the guaranee was a sustained page 1 ranking.

However, since they own site is does just about ever SEO thing wrong I'd be a little wary.

Yes i do know of them a little. I went for an interview with them about 6 months ago and to be honest they seem to know what they're doing. I would be wary of any specific ranking related claims on the whole, but these guys are pretty big and reputable so you're probably safe.

Be very careful when guarantees are mentioned.

Read the small print.

I personally would not believe that anyone can (honestly) promise you specific results - unless they control all the parameters (e.g. you do not choose the keywords, search terms, etc).

They've been honest enough to say they can't do first page on your main term - that's something.

I suppose it's up to you to work back the figures and work out if it will be profitable.

I guess you don't have to pay anything until you hit the first page? And don't forget, there's a BIG difference between ranking 8th & in the top 3 . . . perhaps set up some sort of bonus for getting you in the top 3?

I forgot to ask before - out of interest - what is the term with 5000 searches pcm for which they have offered to get you a page 1 listing?

Dear Paul

Please be careful when companies say that they can get you to page one for specific key phrases - no one can guarantee organic search engine listings. Some keyphrases will have less competition making it far easier for your website to get listed in the top positions. However, you have to weigh it up for example: It could take you six months or longer to get top positions for one key phrase but on the other hand only a few months for a less competitive phrase.

You need to think to yourself it is better to have traffic coming to your site for one phrase than not at all.

Please give me a call if you need more information

The firm that you have been approached by also trade under the name webeventseurope (google their site, I cannot put URLS in my posts)- and their opening spiel was probably: " we are on the first page for 'internet marketing' etc etc "

So how do they get you to the first page? I'll explain. The URL webeventseurope seen as a 'news site', the product in question is called the 'instant trafficker' and basically, they clone a copy of your webpage and insert a link on the webeventseurope - they use their PageRank strength to achieve a top 10 ranking based on a specific (lets face it, a very niche phrase) which fits into guidelines. These guidelines are as follows:

That the phrase does not exceed 10 results when typing into google UK ALLINTITLE (enter phrase here) and INTITLE: (enter phrase here) doesn't exceed 100 results.

This means that they can make the guaruntee that you will recieve a top 10 ranking as there isn't enough people with that particular phrase in their tags - hence making you the garuntee.

The URL will NOT be your URL but will be landing page host off the web events europe page which looks like yours. Make no mistake, this is not SEO - it is merely an advertisement to make a quick buck - and 9 times out of 10, it really doesn't work.

Hope that helps.

After a number of phone calls they now inform me that they can not get me to page one on goggle for any of my chosen Key Phrases but will gladly optimize my web site for £700.00 per month!

D'oh.

That seems rather steep to me - did they say what they would do, or is it all shrowded in mystery?

If it's just a case of analyse and restructure HTML - in order to implement their best practices - then £700 seems like quite a lot of dosh!

Just looked at you flying bears sitew - there are shedloads of things you can do yourself to give yourself a chance at a decent ranking.

For starters you could add some page titles, at least then you would be giving google something to work with rather than 'untitled document'.

I have just run your flyingbears.net website through a basic analyzer and the news is not good.
No title, description, keyword, robot or author tags and the keywords found on the site return as these;
bear - 2 - 14.29%
01253 - 2 - 14.29%
mail - 2 - 14.29%

Clearly you need to get the site sorted out.

I'll just clear this all up for all of you.

The Web Marketing Group also own the doman www.webeventseurope.com and the initial product you were approached with I think is known as a 'web trafficker'. What they proposed was to get you on the first page guarunteed on Google UK for a phrase that fits within their guidelines - and their guidelines would be:

That the phrase must fit the following

phrase cannot return more than 10 results allintitle
phrase cannot return more than 100 results intitle

so, to test what would qualify for a 'Web Trafficker' you could go to Google, ensure that the search terms do not exceed these parameters, and thats your phrase - the catch of course, is that the actual page willl NOT BE YOUR ACTUAL WEBSITE - they will create a replica of your homepage (sort of minisite) and place it on www.webeventseurope.com which is seen by Google as a 'news site'. Once on this page, they can achieve quick results as the page is cached regularly, but its absolutely pointless, you may as well get your ACTUAL site optimised via bespoke link building, site changes and ethical directory submissions.

The Web Marketing Group are not a bad company and they have achieved some good results, however, it is wise to find out EXACTLY where your 'monthly' fee is going, because even with £700 per month, i reckon only £100 would actually go towards bespoke link building.

If you'd like me to talk you through a plan of action, then please call me, 07946256048 - I am a private SEO consultant. Or if you'd simply just like more info on what I'm talking about, that's fine too :)

Examples of my work can be shown on demand.

I look forward to your response - just don't get your fingers burnt

Well you've got some fine pointers on here so I'll just add a little if I may.

SEO tends to work better by a combination of on-site SEO and off-site SEO. What that means is things like headings, titles, alt tags, keyword density etc (onsite-SEO). This is v. important for SEO.

Off-site can take the form of link building and is also important.

If you want to have strong SEO then the combination works best.

The benefits of SEO are also dependent upon your choice of keywords. These can be the difference between night and day, so it's cool to focus on the right ones.
