Hi Guys,

After some good honest advice here

We've grown to the point at which there is too much work for our current team.

We've always done all our SEO and Marketing ourselves, however we're now considering outsourcing some of this.

I'm currently looking on ODesk and would be interested to here anyones thoughts here.

Quality work is key - really don't want to be inundated with hundreds of 'SEO Guru' emails...

We know what needs to be done just don't have the time to do it!

Any thoughts are much appreciated!

Hi Rich,

Outsourcing parts of your SEO campaign is a good idea if you're struggling to cope with the workload with your current staff. If you pick and choose exactly what you want to outsource then you should be able to carefully manage the process to ensure you get the quality of work you want at a good price.

I have outsourced elements of SEO before for both live and test websites and my results have generally been good.

I found that it's best to be very specific about what you do and don't want the outsourced vendor to do for you, I have a very clear list of do's and do nots in the job spec posted. I also make it clear I will not be paying for any work which is carried out not following the guidelines I set out and tell people clearly that if they can't follow instructions then don't bother applying for the work.

It may seem a bit overkill but the last thing you want is somebody building you a ton of spammy links which are of no value to you.

Even after doing the above you generally get a few replies which you can tell immediately haven't read your brief!

If as you say that you know exactly what needs doing then I would go for it. Start off with a smaller chunk of work and go from there. The problem with outsourcing SEO (or anything really) is when you are not 100% certain what you want doing as this can leave your job open to interpretation which is not a good idea.

We have found that any one we outsourced too did a poor job and we had to tell them what to do! So we have taken it in house and our 4 sites are sitting nicely on the first page of Google.

But according to Google's Mat Cutts things will change in the very near future, as the traditional way is now outdated and Google realized these links can be manipulated.

Outsourcing can be a real pain.
I am doing it now but like everyone else am always looking for better people. You really need to keep a tab on these guys and the quality control.

Just make sure you have good communications 7 explain things in details to them. I have experience with guys who get so damn confused about what they have to do, even when they call themselves 'seo gurus'

SEO was the enough technique for your work.I think you approached a wrong man that i why you could not get the sufficient results other wise this technique is enough for your required work.

The problem is the "Gurus" who email you have no idea of SEO and just do little if any to benefit your site. The only way is to find someone with your company to take up the role.

Is paid search part of your marketing strategy? If so you might want to check out crowdsourcing as an option.

I wouldn't really consider Odesk myself but if you do make sure you have a message in there something like "start this email subject with JAMES BOND" or something unique like that, by doing this you can easily just delete all the people sending the same emails to everyone and they haven't even read your requirements

Hi Rich,

Have used Odesk myself in the past for various projects, and the system works, as long as you keep a track on the relevant individuals in your team. The issue you may have, which i had, was the quality of the work, although you will get numerous replies, whether they will be able to consistently produce the work to the quality you require is another matter.
