Outlook & IMAP Accounts

Hello

Does anyone know if I have an email account set up in Outlook as an IMAP account - would any settings there delete a months worth of emails?
I seem to be suddenly missing about 4 weeks worth of emails but it did not delete old ones past 4 weeks.
I tried my webmail (via my cpanel/hosting account) but the emails are also gone from there!
I thought the whole point of IMAP is that you do not actually download emails but just get copies?

However it is worrying that 4 weeks of emails just disappear

Can anyone help please
Joanne

Joanne, I had problems with outlook last week and thanks to Stuzie found a tool thats on my machine to repair it, and when I did, I found various emails I didnt even know I had and various that I had already deleted.

Ask the nice man above if you want to know what and where you find this, but just a thought if you are missing them from Outlook.

Unless you've specifically set a rule up to get Outlook to remove your email messages, then I'd be surprised if it's Outlook.

No I never set up any rules like this.

as per gillie's post:

?

Thanks
Joanne

From what I can remember there is something called scanpst.exe on your machine that is usually a hidden file, so you need to be an admin and show hidden files, then run it.

I found more help on it on the microsoft site where it gave me instructions on how to show it when hidden then where it was found and how to use it.

As I said, I found messages that I hadnt seen before but had been told had been sent.

Can I just stress here the importance of anyone in business (one man band to a multi national company) to have an email strategy.

Too many companies do not think of the consequence to their business if the loose emails. Stats say that over 70% of companies intellectual property is within their email system. Think about how you are going to file them, back them up and search them. If you are a small business use a hosted exchange provider - for around £10 per month per mail box they will provide you with a full managed solutions often with a ability to add email archiving for only a few more £ per month.

Thing is though... that couple of quid a month isn't seen as a wise investment from these businesses - until they need it.
