Have you heard of inbound marketing and sales techniques? Have you tried any out? Do they seem to confusing to try to implement?

or am I talking jibberish?

Inbound Marketing and Sales is really becoming popular in the UK and businesses implementing these changes are see great returns, better, happier customer retention.

I am not starting this post as a sales pitch myself, I would genuinely like to support and advise businesses who would like to see changes in their lead generation, website traffic, website design and SEO efforts. If you have any questions, please leave a comment, drop me a DM and I hope to help!

There are hundreds of threads on UKBF covering the topic. It may not be called 'inbound marketing' (a made up hub-spot name) but it's what many people have been doing for years. Seth Godwin wrote a book about it over 15 years ago.

I'm surprised you don't already know it as it's probably where your hub-spot partner got his ideas. Search for 'Permission marketing'.

Buyer personas, customer journey mapping against website touchpoints depending on lead score/buyer readiness, call to action development based on that journey, then using email drip campaigns to push them down the funnel, staying front of mind, so hopefully front of wallet...

This is basic marketing 101 these days, now that 'everyone' is doing inbound marketing.

Inbound sales are the sales that come when a potential customer saw you or your company website, they investigate further and realize that they could benefit from your products or services and reach out.

Outbound sales are achieved when you spoke with a lead outside and finally won. In this, you will educate the lead on how their products or services fits their needs.

Good explanation, thanks.

Hi @ethical PR

Well by saying outbound sales techniques, exactly that. I still feel that picking up the phone and speaking to a potential customer works best for introductions and selling. I mean, who is really going to purchase something for a business without speaking to someone on the phone? I certainly wouldn't so why waste time typing emails and sending messages when you can just pick up the phone and speak to your potential customer!

Well actually you said 'outbound marketing and sales techniques' and my question was for what? ie for what target audiences and products do you feel that telephone sales is the best solution? I am not saying it doesn't work for some businesses and some decision makers but certainly not for all, or even the majority.

As you work in marketing you will know that there are a huge variety of what you call 'outbound marketing' which means any marketing initiated by the company this could be trade shows, promotions, print, outdoor, broadcast and internet advertising, emails, e-newsletters, door to door, emails, distributions of marketing literature etc

In answer to your questions many businesses buy something without receiving a sales call. In fact when I ran my own business for eleven years I can say hand on heart I never bought a product or service as a result of someone initiating a sale by phoning my agency up.

    Hi @ethical PR

    Thanks for your reply.

Agreed it doesn't work for all.

In response to that, CRM, Data, Credit info ect.. most businesses need and want.

I also agree not everyone will purchase a product/service over the phone, however, most would want to speak over the phone prior to making a final decision so why put everything in between and not just pick the phone up!

We've got different opinions on this, however, as you've said, it depends what business and industry you're in.

    Hi @CarlyNewton123

I agree people will want to pick the phone up but not in response to cold calling.

The buyer will initiate the phone call, because of a company's reputation and/or because they have researched the product or service and want to know more. That is not outbound marketing.

That is not responding to cold calling by the seller.

You ask why businesses don't just rely on cold calling - the answer is because for many products and services, it simply doesn't work :)
