Other duties as required.

Greetings all,
This is my first post on this forum so i sorry if i dont adhere to all rules.
I have worked in my current position for 4 years without incident. However my contracts manager has decided that i must now work at another department for 7 days out of every 21 days. I have strong moral objections to what this other department does and have so far put my foot down refusing to co-operate. My boss is now threatening me with unemployment unless i work at the other department and he is quoting the old "any other duties as required" line from my contract.
The facts are:
1 - contract says "From time to time your manager my ask you to preform other duties as and when required"
.........To me this says when they are short of staff and that the "time to time" wording means he cant rota me into going.
2 - I have not been required to go before, there has been no contractual changes, it seems to be only a whim (bright idea) the boss has had.
.

Have i got a leg to stand on in refusing to do this other work?

What he is asking me to do is totally different from my current duties. They have no benefits to my current position..
Im sorry i cant be more specific. the most i can say is the duties i am being asked to preform more than usually leave "customers" In tears and deeply upset.

From the limited information, your "strong moral" objections will probably carry no weight: McFarlane v Relate

(There's plenty more case law on this subject, so you probably don't have a leg to stand on.)

Thanks for the speedy replies. It is sadly as i thought, unfortunatly it may be time for me to re-enter the jobs market.
It was just a shock for me to find out that someone can take a job as an accountant and a year later be told his new duties will be standing in the storeroom guarding a watermelon and as long as his pay and hours dont change he cannot do anything about it.
