I'm currently shopping around for a new online payment provider. I’ve been using Stripe—solid service, and ever since I broke up with PayPal (too many chargebacks, all of them more creative than truthful), life’s been quieter. But now Stripe’s giving me the slow and steady price creep—like a Netflix subscription with ambition. Anyone got recommendations for a wallet-friendlier option that won’t make me miss PayPal’s drama?

Paypal is OK if you do enough through them. Our charges in the UK are very low with them, and very few chargeback issues. It depends on your niche though I suppose. I use Stripe on my site in Hong Kong and I do find them very expensive.

If you are in the UK, look at Nochex. They have been my backup provider for many years.

The problem is the service @Talktime provides. It’s the sort of service that lends itself to chargeback claims (see earlier threads to find out why).

If it were me I’d have clients do a bank transfer. That would make the fraudsters think twice.

PayPal should be boycotted really.
I used to think the same, which is why I turned to Nochex back in the day. However, there's a point where you start to feel the benefits, and the issues they’re known for become less of a concern. I have three accounts with them: two in the UK and one in Hong Kong. The more you work with them, the better the support and pricing you receive. When I do need to call, I’m usually directed to a knowledgeable account manager in Ireland.

I don't experience many chargebacks, and I can’t even remember the last one I lost. It’s possible they just absorbed the costs, but I’m not sure. They've been incredibly accommodating, collaborating with my developers on integrations and offering tailored solutions for different countries, sites, and software. In recent years, I really can’t complain about them at all. I think when they lost their eBay monopoly, they had no choice but to adapt or die, and that meant focusing more on looking after their larger customers.

They also bought Braintree and iZettle, so with the latter, I now use them for in-person card payments too.
