Hi all im new to the forum and looking for as much help and advice as possible.
Im looking to import 4 items from china to the uk and have been quoted a price of £1500 cfr to a London port. What costs will i occure from this point? I know there will be VAT to pay as well as duty but are there any other likely costs?
I would also require the items to be collected from the port and delivered to the north of England. Do i need a freight forwarder or a clearing agent to help with this process?

Thanks

Your best bet is to contract a UK freight forwarder to import the items for you put them through customs and then deleiver it to your end location.

I've used www.bronel.com before (this was not for a full container but just a smaller delivery which was put in a shared container.)

Give them a call as there are other costs that add up like port charge etc...

I'm in China, if you need you can contact with me and I'll try to contact some forwarders in China, and compare the charge for you.

TKM44 - if you are looking at buying less than a container load from a Chinese supplier ask them to quote you basis FOB Chinese port only otherwise you will be ripped off for very high charges this side.

If you buy on an FOB basis you are free to make your own shipping arrangements with a UK based freight forwarder. You will then know exactly what costs to expect and won't have any unexpected nasty surprises.

We have been shipping freight to/from the Far East since 1994 and already work with some other members on UKBF.

We take care of the customs clearance and duty/VAT payments and can arrange deliveries all round the UK.

If you would like a quotation for your shipment, please feel free to send me a PM. We will need to know the port of origin in China, delivery point in the UK and the weight/dimensions of the packages.

Best regards,
Glen
